I love the ideas and concepts you have going here, and cant wait to try the game (Although the current industry's use of betas has me rather startled).

And would love it if some of the concepts for this game, the successful ones and experience will eventually rebound back in to ES, and then vice versa.

All in all, cant wait to see what you have in store for us!

I hope that this game can have the background story depth of endless space, and a depth of story during the game would be nice too.

how about a long lost remanent of the cravers that have no connection to the cravers. i think it would be amazing if the cravers had a mechanic that they had to win the game in a certain number of turns that is extended by devouring other species, like their trait in endless space. also for the arachnophobis they could be a completely original insectoid race.

I'd like to see them as their pre-engineered selves (or as a remnant of them, depending on how EL fits into the timeline.

Perhaps even as a playable race not called the Cravers.

Oh, believe me, I know about mosquitoes smiley: fat. I just want Cravers to be in the game. They just seem so savage in their lore that it would be cool if they were somehow worked in to the game as something like the barbarians in Civ.

But the robots could be a link to the death machines event in ES. I remember that the art for it actually showed a snowy environment so that would make sense.

Yeah, but why would Cravers only come out in the winter? They're instectoid and, if they're anything like terrestrial arthropods, cold blooded. If anything, they'd be a threat in the summer.

You know, like mosquitoes.

That's sounds good!

"Magic and Sword" is now popular in China.I think this game will be easy to generalize in our country!

Good luck!

Yeah thats true the End of Auriga which made it a barren Wasteland has much in common with Ragnarök the Nordic Armageddon where Fenrir (Son of Loki) eats the sun causing eternal winter and Darkness.

Hi there,

Here we are at last. smiley: smile

Thank you all for joining us to make of Endless Legend our next 4X, an awesome game. We hope to make the reference both in term of 4x strategy and for the fantasy genre.

Our primary goal is to inherit from Endless Space as much as we can. While making it we learned a lot about creating 4X, and now we want to use that experience for Endless Legend. If we aim right you should not be lost when you play EL, yet, many gameplay features will be unique to its settings.

THE TIME OF LEGEND

It is said that the planet known as Auriga was once a jewel among jewels. Sleepily basking in the rays of a white star, verdant plains and jungles thrived across its face. Bubbling streams excavated canyons and caverns, and as continents ground together clean, white-capped peaks rose into the skies like spears of ice. Cool rivers ran to deep blue seas, and all was filled with life. It was a gaia, a nurturing world.

Then came the cataclysm. Records give no reason why, but out of nowhere the planet was hammered by earthquakes and meteor storms as tsunami and hurricanes ravaged its coasts. Its limitless forests were reduced to ash, its sapphire-blue seas to cesspools, and its great landmarks fell into ruins. Scarred, barren, and lethal, the Auriga of legend spent centuries under the same indifferent white sun, roasting in its glare.

But life is a force of unthinkable power. The simplest forms of life survive, then grow and evolve and form ever-more complex beings. Given enough time, almost anything is possible. And even the impossible becomes possible when this process of evolution occurs on a world whose crust was so rich in Dust, and whose life forms are so laden with the rich heritage of growth and evolution...

In a few tens of thousands of years, rather than billions, plants once more dared to thrust upward. The atmosphere slowly cleared. Algae began to change the waters, filtering and purifying them. A rugged natural biosphere reasserted itself, as an entirely new and different Auriga grew from the ruins of the old one. Equally rich in resources but now brimming with innumerable strange life forms, it is a world full of impossibilities made possible.

Yet all is not tranquil, for something has changed the seasons. What was once known as 'winter' is now spoken of like an evil presence - the Endless Cold, the White Death, the Dark Season -- every nation has their name for it. Winter seems to be more frequent, and longer, and the pressure to survive it grows with each year.

THE TIME OF ACTION

Strange new creatures, intelligent and savage, have now appeared on Auriga. The intelligent ones each hold to their own traditions and legends, their own myths and prophecies. They will all set out to survive, to discover each other, and to learn more of the tortured history of their homeworld.

You are numbered among these. Leader of your people, you look across the land and see resources and creatures -- opportunities and threats. The time has come. Your city grows too small for its population, and your heroes must go out and secure territory. Food, industry, and knowledge must be gathered, friends must be made, enemies defeated. And, above all, winter must be survived.

And what of this strange substance, known as Dust, so present and yet so inexplicable? With it certain sages and mystics seem to be able to turn the wildest dreams into reality; its precious nature makes it a common medium of exchange even while it is hoarded by those who wish to harness its power.

Exploration, conquest, Dust, and the strange hints left in ancient ruins... Your reign may not be long, but it promises to be eventful.

Welcome to Auriga...

smiley: amplitude VIP FEEDBACK

Our VIPs had a few questions about:

The art of the game: we can assure you that our visual style will match the genre of the game: a civilization like building game. There will of course be an evolution, through technologies and also magic. Some VIPs wondered where we are exactly standing when dealing with realism/fantasy. You will get to see a little bit more about the game (screenshots/artwork), and eventually even play the game: some factions will surely be darker than others but it'll be up to you to judge!

The concept of Winter and a possible reference to Game of Thrones: besides adding a dynamic and interesting gameplay element, our writer Slowhands gave a reply:

Slowhands wrote:
In fact, George R. R. Martin is my pen name, so there's no problem with the copyright.

(Okay, just kidding)

In fact, winter is a major element of fantasy/SF worlds and has been since loooooong before Mr Martin put it on the small screen. Think of Narnia, locked in perpetual winter in "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe", or "The Left Hand of Darkness" and the wintry world of Gethen, or the Helliconia cycle of Brian Aldiss where entire civilizations are born in spring, grow in summer, and perish in winter, or the world of Moulokin in Alan Dean Foster's Icerigger Trilogy, or...

Martin can get credit for taking a classic trope and doing something brilliant with it, but the guy has hardly invented the seasons! On the other hand, I agree that using the phrase "Winter is coming" is probably a bad idea -- if not copyrighted, the use of the identical phrase at least makes us look like uninspired plagiarists.

The fact is that in any medieval society winter was a serious problem, and we want to use that history of cataclysm and seasonal stress to really put the pressure on you guys smiley: biggrin

Modding: some of the VIPs are already wondering about the possibilities we will offer to our modders. It will be pretty similar to Endless Space though you should have plenty of things to play with, especially when it comes to the quests.

Looking forward to reading your feedback! smiley: smile

I've pre-orderd the Emperor Edition of endless space and just got around to playing it (with Disharmony installed) the day before Dungeon of the Endless dropped.

...in my defense, I really have to be in the right mood to start learning a new 4X game. There have been a whole lot of fantastic pickup-and-play games coming out in recent years and I got sorta sidetracked.

I started with Pilgrims on normal in a huge galaxy with eight races and lost. The next day I bought Dungeon and switched to the Vaulters, otherwise keeping the same game setup.

I. Love. The Vaulters.

Science factions are my favorite and their portal affinity is fantastic. (The Caves of Steel lore for them is great too). In my first Vaulters game I lost to a Sophon economic victory 2 turns from a scientific victory (despite my best efforts to trade for technologies). After taking a day to recharge I won a diplomatic victory (1 turn from my own scientific victory!) on turn 118.

Long story short: I'm now obsessed. Now I want to be involved in the community and help shape the direction of Endless Legend.

I can already tell I'm going to stick with the Vaulters. "Fantasy world that has forgotten its sci-fi past" is my absolute favorite sub-genre (Jack Vance's Dying Earth, Gene Wolfe's Book of the New Sun, etc.). I'm really excited for it.

As to my initial input:

1) I'm glad AI is a primary focus. It's the one thing other than immersive atmosphere that I care most about in games, especially the 4X variety.

2) The seasons mechanic sounds great. Will there be any variability? I.e., will some winters be harsher than others? Some growing seasons more productive? Could there be variability in the exact length of the seasons? I think some unpredictability would make it a mechanic that really sets Legend apart form other 4X games.

I know I'm late to the party but, great job on Endless Space guys! I'm having fun with both Space & Dungeon and am really looking forward to Legend.

^^ No malice was ever intended. But we did get off on a Tangent.

But now this has me wondering... Is the defensive platform part of the background story? I mean, what would a bunch of primitive peoples (primitive in the beginning at least) want with a defensive platform? Unless off-planet Cravers come raiding during the dark season? smiley: empirepoint
