Those 2 human scientists seem to have tattoos, the female on her hands and torso and the male on his forehead. Being in the same lab with a Sophon, i would say they are Pilgrims but the colors, but the colors (dark blue and orange) give me Vaulter hints.

They look like vaulters at least judging from the orange/black clothes.

Sigh, thats not going to happen for a while, especially given that the EL artbook hasn't even been released yet.

The ships in the distance are clearly Sophon ships. But what about the blocky ships? Vaulters or Empire?

By the way, they do look pretty good.

The Vaulters, Sheredyn, and United Empire all use the same basic blocky ship design. However the Vaulter ships tend to have some ornamentation on the outside of their ships which is notably lacking in this picture. Personally I would say they are either Sheredyn or United Empire ships.

I may be mistaken, but I think the ships on the right are early Cravers drafts. Cravers have these sort of organic pipes that throb for purposes unknown, conducting... matter? Fighters? Ammo? from one end of the ship to the other, and I think that's what we're looking at.

As for the humans, I don't want to throw off your speculation, but I think these humans are serving the same purpose as the humans in many Endless Legend illustrations: an "agnostic" race that won't detract from the piece's intent or what it's meant to showcase. I could also be wrong on that account given that these illustrations were released shortly before I joined the studio, but my story checks out so I'm holding to it. smiley: stickouttongue

Craver ships do tend to have pipes around the side, on the other hand they are a lot more open and exposed, they look slapdash and alost incomplete.

Craver Ship:

UE ships on the other hand are much more complete, utlizing straight lines with mathematical precision to design their ships' exteriors. They are very boxlike as seen in the ships to the right.

You could be right, this pipe might simply be feeding a turret's weapon systems, or something similar.

Note that Cravers ship design has evolved somewhat significantly from the ES1 models. See the first post in this thread for the most recent published concept art. smiley: smile

Somehow the artists at Amplitude manage to top themselves with each passing game. This is beyond impressive. Great work.

I can't take how beautiful Amplitude's aesthetics always are. I'll even play the Cravers, now, god damn it.

If they manage to sell me on the Hissho as well, I give up.

Maybe they should combine the Allayi and the Hissho into a new Endless Space faction. Personally, I like the aesthetic of the Allayi a lot more than the Hissho, though the aspect of Hissho aesthetics that always bothered me most was the obsession with bird-like ship designs.

Interesting - I'd assumed the pipes were used by the Cravers to get around the ship and so were pulsating because they were full of drones crawling about inside. Presumably Cravers can survive in a vacuum for a while though (I assume it was swarms of drones that were buzzing around their ships in ES1) so perhaps the pipes are for something else? Maybe their slaves are stored in there (as I doubt they can survive in vacuum) - just floating around?

What's even more confusing is how they connect up on the transport ship - most of them just loop round the spherical structure and don't really go anywhere so presumably they aren't just delivering fuel or ammo to different parts of the ship. It's very mysterious...
