Hero ships are unique in design and I think it would be a little much, to ask the developers at this time, to make more models for them.  I am proposing a very simple solution to help the longevity and usefulness of the hero ships.  Hero ships are already pretty diverse overall, depending on the design. However, after middle game to late game though they are on the fragile side.


For simplicity, I would like to see an upgrade attached to the carrier tech that upgrades the hero ships. There could be a High density structure tech for it.


Once the upgrade is researched

1) Then double the base hull stats

2) If a ship does not have 3 modules slots, then add/unlock an additional slot at that time.  IE +1 to the Guardian - Tamad class


This is a simple, but not OP solution.  This will also keep the ships "flavour". The biggest advantage to Heroes are the bonuses they provide to the fleet.  These changes would ensure that they can use enough modules to defensively protect themselves and endure the much greater firepower they will face in a late game.


In the future, I would love to see bigger and unique flagships for the Heros. For in the interim, I think this would be the best solution.

Would second guess the technology choice but the logic is sound provided how heavily the hero ships are focused in most engagements.


How about instead we provide hero ships with slots for varios strategic resource for every advanced ship research? That provides us with at least one slot per strategic resource and will scale throughout the game with the research.

That is a good idea for keeping the scalability.  


The inherent problem with the Hero ships, of course, is they are small hulls.  Military ships throughout their lifetime and in the game can be upgraded and retrofitted, howver the hull stays the same. Most of the hulls allow for enough modules to protect the hero ship enough like the adamantium jammer.  The Guardian - Tamad ship is the exception to that.   I don't think the others need too many more modules for the small hull, because of space constraints. I feel most of the hero ships are well balanced for their purpose.  However, Armor is the exception, because armor technically goes to the outside of the ship and it is really no big deal to add more with the technological advances.  


As long as they have 3 module slots, and double armor I am good with that. The armor technically would also serve a hull upgrade.


Ultimately, I didn't want it to feel like it was cheating in an unrealistic manner, and that is the main reason that weapons would be unchanged.


I do think the resources would be a great idea, and you could be charged as a resource slot for them as well.  Without bigger hulls, this was the best way I could think of to help them out late game.

Why not let heros fly your gaurdian class ships, they are called gaurdian's after all!  Seriously, there has to be a way to impliment tiered hero ships, or put it in the hero's skill tree.  A hero rework is required for sure, I would love to be attached to them, but its hard to be.  It is like being delt cards, give them rankings, add some luck of the draw to how powerful your hero is.  This idea is a good one!  Every review mentions heros are un-interesting so hint hint ;-)   Love you guys for putting up with the community.

Obviously, a tiered system would be best.  Maybe a good idea for a mod if it is possible.  Maybe eventually they will implement that.  For now though, I just want to be able to improve the ships a bit to get by in the late game.
