It would probably be more correct and "atmospheric" to use mass instead of weight in the ship design screens.

Perhaps, though I think it's clearly an abstraction. I don't think "mass" would be all that much more correct, when I think of "weight" in this context I'm imagining not how much it would move a scale but how much impact it would have on the craft.

Never the less, weight is affected by gravity, thus your ships would have different weight in different places while the mass remains constant.

Your weight would also increase under thrust! A module on a rapidly accelerating scout would weigh more than a much more massive module on a cruising battleship.

As far as context of how much impact it would have on the craft, mass is still effective terminology. More mass = more thrust/force to move or change directions, more "stuff" in the way in the case of armor, etc. I think it also expands better into comparative terms, i.e. "A more massive ship" instead of "A heavier ship".

I was a bit "shocked" as well when I saw "weight". Definitely "mass" would be more proper wording, let's not miss the science part of "science-fiction" too much. smiley: smile

There is no such thing as "Weight" in space. Weight is derived from Gravity and Mass.

Having a limit on the Mass on a ship makes more sense than weight.

I hadn't noticed this, but I do agree that it seems really strange to have weight being referred to and not mass - especially when this is a science fiction space game. Hopefully this will be fixed.

i agree that mas works better

though this really just seems one of those minor nit-picky kinds of things

Me too, mass would fit better than weight on this kind of game. I don't know nothing about programming but, it's not only matter of change words, "mass" for "weight"?

They might have to change a few strings or something somewhere as well. or anything that references "weight" on descriptions and such. but hopefully it won't be too much work. (I ain't a programmer though so i'm just guessing).
