Silly newbie question

I saw the sale on Steam and googled a few reviews... liked what I saw.... so I decided to purchase the alpha...

Seems great so far. However, I can not figure out how to switch to different races. On the screen where I can select the difficulty, the number of AI empires, the size of the map, etc... i was able to add a few additional empires and I am able to change their races (the Cravers, the Hissho, the Horatio, the Sophon, and the United Empire). However, I can not change my race - so I am always the United Empire.

So my biggest question is how do I switch my race? The other races have a down triangle where I click and select the race (the Cravers, the Hissho, the Horatio, the Sophon, and the United Empire) but I dont get that option for myself. Am I missing something?

Whoa.... well... hmmm.....

Yep that did it....

Now i FEEL foolish. I thought for sure I would have click that portait once.... or twice as I was looking for a way to change my race.

Now I understand how each alignment works for each species. 3 evil, 1 good, and 1 neutral. I believe we need a few more races of good and neutral.

Maybe a popup window saying 'change your race here' when you hover your mouse over the portrait?...
