When trying to register for a Games2Gether account it wouldn't allow me to use my email address which is @hey.com, instead I had to use my @gmail.com address (which isn't my preferred one).
I don't know why the email addresses seem to only validate well-known email providers, since we are require you to verify the email anyhow (by clicking a link sent to the address). HEY is a new e-mail provider and while not as popular as Gmail is still a valid address.
I think it's mostly because it's really easy to use temp mails. I myself used several for different occasion. Not allowing weird provider like @hey.com aim to reduce fake account as lot of people won't bother set up gmail (or similar) account if they don't intend to use it.
HEY isn't a weird provider. It's a popular new email by DHH - the people who made BaseCamp. There was a big face-off between them and Apple because of the App Store practices. (https://hey.com)
Additionally it's no more difficult to set-up fake Gmail, Yahoo or other accounts.
