I cannot seem to be able to load a game anymore. Any saved game brings the below error:

I think the issue lies in using the cloud save system. I turned that off and I can load locally saved games again. Don't enable this feature!

Same error. i had to save and reload due to a city saying it was idle but it had a queue. it wouldn't let me next turn. so i saved, then reloaded. I however CAN load the autosave for that same turn though, just not the saved file that i saved right before going back to the main menu.

I've had this same error in the past 3 games I've played. I typically reach the Modern age, notice my science numbers aren't updating or changing in the ways they should be, save, attempt to reload the game, and find that my save won't load.


Then I try every single autosave and find that none of those will load with the same error:

Then, suddenly, I've lost the ability to continue the game if I don't want to return to a manual save from 200 turns ago.

I've run into the exact same problem on two different games except I only make it to the medieval period before the game crashes on loading.  The thing is, I manual save regularly and the manual saves crash as well.  I filed a bug report a couple of days ago, I'm not sure if they saw it or not.  I'm going to try disabling the cloud save option and see if that's where the problem lies.  If that's the issue, then no problem.  But if it's still crashing and I don't hear of any effort to fix it, then I'm going to have to uninstall the game until they do fix the problem as this is a gamebreaking bug.  This is also the reason why I got gamepass--at least this way I'm not out fifty or sixty bucks had I got the game to own.  If they do fix the problem, I'll definitely buy the game as I'm having fun playing it--when it's not crashing, that is.  eta: I'm going to try running the game as administrator as well and see if that works around the problem--keeping fingers crossed because this is an annoying bug.

Im not gonna play this game until this is fixed. its a gamebreaking bug and the developers should make a statement about this.....

We have the same error in a 2 Player MP game.


All autosaves also doesn't work. Starting a new game works, but it is annoying loose a 250 rounds game ...

In its current state this game is unplayable. MY last 3 games had game breaking bugs. One was the getting stuck at end of turn bug. The other 2 were local save games that were unable to be load. If i could have refunded this on steam, i would have. But that 2 hour window thing is a joke in a 4x game. I also would have expected a hot fix by now, for a bug that makes the game unplayable.

This also happened to me. Turn 259 was taking forever to load, reloaded game from turn 256, played until 259, got stuck again. quit, tried reloading right from turn 259 and got the error message.

Same problem here. It happened after several events that I would like to remove from my list of the potential causes for the bug.

  1. It was just after an important Windows update (12 October 2021 :KB5006670), it might very well be that the bug was present before but I cannot restore to the previous Windows state.
  2. I just got the 7th star (aesthete) to reach a new era (turn 220) but didn’t transition yet. I replayed several times this moment, sometimes when I transitioned I noticed that I got the short video about the era transition (3 to 4), but not the short one about the Joseon introduction video.
  3. In all my cities, I make sure that no city was terminating a building or infrastructure the next turn, it seems that I was able to push one step before the bug happens (but not quite sure), the bug was there anyway shortly after.

This bug is a major one, hope that it will be solved quickly. I find strange that Amplitude has no communication about the next update to fix it.

Yeah, I also think this bug renders the game unplayable for me, and it has no answer from Amplitude for 2 months.

What is the point on starting a new game if you can not rely on the game been saved?

New Patch Fabius Maximus seems to fix the issue.

Similar issue here. Two games in a row have the corrupted save / load bug. 

NOTE both these games were started AFTER the December-2021 patch.


As per Dev request on Steam forums, here are the most recent 2 autosaves in the game where the bug most recently occured:

auto-save 365.ctr

auto-save 364.ctr


Here is a save game from 5 turns earlier that still successfully loads without returning the error (see error message below)

hopefully not boolean bug.ctr


Note I also performed a cloud save on the same turn as auto-save 365.ctr and that is also corrupted with the same error message.

Already happened to me once, had to reinstall the game... This is getting old.

I'm getting the same error, and even after turning off cloud sync, it still pops up when I try to start a new game. I am playing with four mods: Super Culture Pack, Official Endless, Culture True Start, and Cognomen. any suggestions on what I should do?

I am playing through Epic Games if that helps. (would have gotten through Steam, but I would have had $10 more off if I did Epic.) In addition to the above, I have also tried verifying the files. I decided to go and try to edit the problematic files myself, but I cannot find them. after getting to the HUMANKIND folder, where could I find the problem files?

For me, it always worked either with steam repair or by reinstalling the game. This helps all the time, one of these two, if they don't, then the problem has to be on your PC, or something else, but it has nothing to do with the game. I got bored playing all these games to be honest, now I am more into games which actually involves thinking and attention, therefore playing some online solitaire has been one of my favorite occupations in the last few weeks, and what I like the most about it, is it can be played from anywhere.

Hello there

I am playing the game from the xbox game pass. I was enjoying the game till today when, while I was on my 600th turn or something the AI stopped playin her turn in to a couple of sieges. I tried to load a manual save and an autosave and both failed with this error showing up to my screen:

I tried to load an autosave a couple of turn older and it worked but... The AI again doesn't play her turn in battle. I tried to save and load, or load a previous autosave but nothing, same error as before.

This is unacceptable. I am happy I didn't buy the game, more cuz I see this issue is 9 months old and hasn't been solved...

Still have this bug nearly 2 years later. My Helicopter was going over unfriendly territory when it got ambushed. i pressed manual battle and it was the enemies turn and it just said waiting for their turn, i waited for 10 minutes then went to the main menu to reload a save and it gave me this

Im currently redownloading the game from xbox gamepass which is where i got it and will see if it works. Mind you i was on turn 1205 and had a very good game so im very upset


Update: All the recent saves that i had didn't work. i loaded up a manual save from turn 876 that ended up working. tried reloading the later saves from then on but it still didn't work. I'll continue playing my current game but i wont make a new one due to this issue. Truly a game breaking bug that should've been fixed years ago

The only thing different is the <...> at the end but the rest of the error is still the same

I've tried everything, loading older saves, changing settings, playing without mods, uninstalling the game and reinstalling it etc... and this still happens


tried to check the diagnostics to see what happens but they're completely useless as they only give a the same error messages with no indication as to what is causing it
