Hey everyone,

As we love to repeat, our games wouldn't be what they are without our community. We do mean that, and of course, we mean it literally: all of our games feature content that has been imagined, designed or otherwise created by our players! It seems only fair to us to now welcome some of these awesome people into the spotlight. Since this is a new feature for us, don't hesitate to leave feedback on this feature in the comments!

Make way for the third of our community members to join the freakshow: Koradji, co-creator of the Unfallen!

Hey there, can you introduce yourself?

I’m Paolo, aka Koradji and I’m from Italy. I work in videogame localization as project manager and translator. I’m passionate about games (digital or not) and literature/fiction, and I’m always happy to experiment with things that combine them, like narrative-focused RPGs.

How long have you been part of the Endless community? Which of our games do you play?

I’ve been a fan of Amplitude for around three years. I’m not usually a fan of 4X games, so it took me some time to notice Endless Space, but after trying it I quickly loved it and I went on to play every Amplitude game, with Endless Legend being my favorite up until now.

What’s the first Games2Gether contest you took part in?

The Unfallen creation contest is the first one I decided to take part in. Unfortunately, at the time of the first phase I didn’t have the chance to prepare a concept for submission, but after reading the winner of that first phase, my brain went into high gear and I absolutely had to try my hand at the other phases of the contest!

How did you hear about the Faction creation contest for Endless Space 2?

I’m usually quiet online, but I frequently browse the forums and games2gether in general, so I couldn’t miss the announcement.

What was the inspiration for your submission and what was the creation process?

I actually took many cues from the winners of the first two phases and tried to weave into the story elements that emerged from the original concept and the drawings. Apart from that, I didn’t want the Unfallen to seem monolithic or one-dimensional, and I felt that there was an interesting paradox within them, so I tried to show how they seem to be trapped in a circle of courage and fear, of wanting to obtain peace when war seem inevitable. Finally, I wanted the short story to be circular, to convey these concepts, but to have some elements that break this circle, to signify the start of the player’s journey to, hopefully, help the Unfallen find a resolution to their paradoxes.

How do you think the dev team carried out your vision?

As I said before, I’m not usually a fan of strategy games, and what has drawn me to Amplitude’s games are the stellar art direction and the unique world-building, which, in my opinion, help create great emergent narratives during play. This is to say that it’s not a great surprise that I really appreciate the result, and it’s been very fun and interesting seeing the polishing process to reach this enigmatic and even imposing faction.

That's all for Koradji! Now we turn to you folks, the rest of our community: what other questions do you have for him? Who should we feature next?

A few months ago, I was flicking through steam reviews of various 4X games. There was one called Galactic Civilizations which included such factions as the Money Guys and the the Science Guys and the Nasty War Guys. And then there's ES2, where every single faction- particularly the Unfallen- manages to encapsulate at least one driving paradox. (There is a Kim Stanley Robinson quote to the effect that European philosophy- particularly French philosophy- is built around heroic attempts to reconcile opposites, and I see a lot of this in Amp's faction design!)

So. well done on creating such an interesting faction. It's fascinating--  to the extent that I spent an hour yesterday poring over the wiki for every Unfallen name in an attempt to reconstruct their language-!
