I tend to name my fleets after the systems they are built in, to keep organized. However, I usually have to abbreviate or name them after something else cause there isn't enough room for all the letters. What naming convention do you use for your fleets?

Moved to the offtopic section.

Unless it's a hero-led fleet, I like to stick to the greek alphabet. Maybe too many maths lectures rubbed off on me.

The generic, default system for me as well. Although now Nos has me wondering if it does follow the Greek alphabet (Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, etc...) or the NATO phonetic alphabet (Alpha, Beta, Charlie, Delta, etc...). I've never paid much attention past Beta, and now I can't remember...

I play Hissho often so i keep it like black dawn, rising sun. But the char limit for fleet names is pain :/

I name them <#>, and rename them when I redeploy them to a new front. So, Fleet 1 stationed in the Sower sector is Sower 1, etc. Fleets without combat significance receive no name.

I name them after the mission or operation I want them to be part of.

Standing scout/observing fleets are often named Aurora 1, Aurora 2, etc.

Fleets attacking the enemy in retaliation will often be called "Dies Irae" or "Furiae".

I usually run three types of fleets; blockades, for choke point systems, which I simply title "Block1/2/3/etc", scout fleets (Scout1/2/etc) and invasion fleets, which I currently use the NATO phonetic alphabet. Perhaps if the character limit were to be extended/lifted, I would get more creative, but for now simple works.

Fleet 1, 2 , 3 etc.

I would much rather name individual ships and be able to adjust their color patterns and such. Then they would have more personality.

AF 1 then AF 2 etc and if its an ivasion fleet IF 1 then IF 2. In multiplayer I usually just go by number.

Today I learned that naming fleets can actually be a strategy instead of an aesthetic convenience.

I actually love to name my fleets after deities (from all the cultures) but after I get confused I start naming the fleets by composition smiley: biggrin
