So I finally went back to the game and wanting some progress and to cure my OCD need to open ALL the doors I had it on Too Easy. That got me through in two play throughs so I saw the (weak) end sequence and got my album unlocks.

As the album unlocks more the perspective of the writing and some of the text indicates that something is directing or controlling the heros - did I miss something, does Easy give more info on what this is? I haven't unlocked all the album

Did you unlock everything in the album? Then the next part of the story is in the Endless Legend victory quest and the promotional trailers and materials for Endless Space 2. I won't spoil the surprise but there is a secret that needs discovering...

Ah okay cool, I'm a few short on the album so I'll keep going with it.
