Used to play Dungeon of the Endless back when it came out, during my college days. Just recently I've gotten back into playing, but I'm experiencing issues with constant crashing during play and even on the main menu.

Here's how it goes. I boot up the game, play for a couple hours, then save and quit. When I come back later that day or the next day, I hit continue and I open a couple of doors on the new floor before everything freezes (except the audio) and my cursor turns into the pinwheel of death. So I force quit the application, restart the application, and choose "New Game" in the menu, thinking it might be an issue with the save file. So I get the starting cutscene, and while I'm deciding if I want to take Opbot or the Warden, the game freezes (again, except the audio) and I get the pinwheel. So I go into my Steam library and uninstall the game, restart my computer, and re-install to make sure it's not an issue with some of my file organization. I start the game up, try a new game, everything works well for a couple hours, I save and quit, leave, come back, start the game up again, and then it freezes... again.

I've noticed that while Dungeon of the Endless is crashing on my system, it's overloading my CPU, running about 97-110% of my CPU according to Activity Monitor.

Obviously, this constant interruption is hindering my ability to play the game. Are there any quick fixes or changes I can make to stop the crashing?
