Please make a 4-player co-op, not 3 (or make it scalable)

Trailer and site is somewhat implying that there will be only 3 players co-op.

But there a 2 main reasons to make it 4 instead:

1. Original DotE had 4 heroes in squad

2. Most co-op games has 4 players in mind, so there a lot of 4-ppl companies of friends who accustomed to play with each other, and it would be difficult to choose who had to be left behind.

Even better: make it scalable from 3 (2?) to 4 players, so for 4 players there will be a little bit more enemies, etc.

Or is it asymmetric co-op in trailer? 3 field heroes and one operator? Who control economics, turrets, etc. That would be fresh for sure, and I'm totally fine with it.

i don't like the idea of that unless the operator has more function, a common problem with the game is that someone's gotta be an operator, and someone's gotta do the chores that no-one else wants. anything could virtually make it better -- i just don't want to sit idle in a room holding tab for half an hour while everyone else wipes the floor.

the idea that one player would have to micro everything instead of it being a collaborative effort also means some room power quirks no longer work, and i personally enjoyed it.

I agree with Buggo about the downtime problem that the first Dungeon of the Endless has, not to mention that it takes a looong time to go from one part of the map to the next. I'd recommend making it so that there's an option to speed movement up when there are no enemies--assuming we are going by DotE rules.

I don't think it'll be just 3 play co-op. The three character shown in the announcement trailer are just the only ones that have been revealed so far. On the official website, if you scroll down, you can see a list of characters, with only three you can click on. The other ones are marked as "coming soon". Don't give your hopes up, I'm sure 4 player co-op will be available for ED.

I say up to 4 players with difficulty scaling is good(stats, amount, rarity) is good to make the game a good single and coop experience. I agree with Buggo that asymmetric character control seems unfun if the 1 or 3 are significantly more "exciting" in terms of pace or power scaling of their abilities. From anecdote, my friends enjoyed DotE the most when we have access to 1 archtype for resources, 1 for immobile dps, 1 for utility(debuff/buffs), 1 for mobile allrounder(dips into tank, buff or dps). The operator being boring can be fixed if they get access to mage/bard-like abilities(maybe too op) or camera vision(i like in combat info/heat-vision rather than out of combat info). If 3 characters is going to be the plan, I can only see 1 dps, 1 combat utility, 1 out of combat utility as the composition which might stale gameplay if you are highly incentivized to have one of each.

I also agree with Changlini that sometimes moving during "no enemy time" felt slow because in DotE, only 1-2 people can stop operating and go to the shop or repair a different room. unless there is a poison debuff, having bonus movement speed between rounds(flat or percent bonus) might help(applied during the free heal time and unapplied when a door is activated or in the crystal room).

One friend likes gork/misha, another likes kaspar/deena, a third likes ken/mizi, and I like Max/chef. I hope similar similar niche characters are in the upcoming game.

I'm hoping it's still (at least) up to four players for co-op. It seems like a few games in recent years have lowered co-op to only three and that's left someone out of several gaming circles. The ability for the leader or another player to control multiple characters made up for times when someone wasn't available.

With co-op in mind, my only real issues from the original were connection issues and I'm hoping they're handled differently/better. While playing DotE on steam, we might have a player drop/lose connection and then they would be unable to re-access the same game or it would say they were already in it. Essentially, we'd have to start over with a new game about 15-25% of the time. That might not be a huge percent but it made the game too unreliable for streaming purposes. This was definitely a game I wanted to share and get others interested. I'm so looking forward to the next rendition.
