Is it possible to co-op between insider and retail versions (PC)?

Title basically says it all and I presume it is prevented intentionally but I'll ask it anyways. Tried it but game just gives an error and nothing else happens. Waiting for co-op missing progression fixes before I'm buying the retail version and it would've been interesting just to test this with a friend while waiting since insider version still seems to be working...
