To say I am excited for this game would be a understatement. Also a little feedback.

First of all I have to say, even though I had a good idea this was coming since I heard Derek Paxton was joining Amplitude, that I am beyond happy to see EL2. I always felt when compared to modern/sci-fi setting 4X games, fantasy really gets the short end of the stick sometimes. I am really hoping that you guys do an amazing job and not only have a very successful product, but go as far as to say so to speak kickstart future fantasy 4X IPs.  And Trust me with Derek Paxton on the team and seeing what he did with his mod (Fall From Heaven) in Civ 4 you got a good chance to pull it off. Really FFH has so many concepts in it that a lot of game even today lack and it the reason I have close to 3k hours in civ 4. So yeah needless to say I am super exited to see what you guys pull off with EL2.

With that said there are a few mechanics that I hope EL2 changes that where to EL1.

Empire Plans:
This is one of the biggest ones for me in EL1. It felt a bit gamey and really encourages players to do some cheesy tactics to work around the X amount of turn limit you had for each upcoming empire plan. I hope out of everything this got changed to have a more healthier system in it place.

Mercenaries:

I also really hope the mercenary system is slightly changed to be a little bit more interesting during our playthroughs.  It felt a little underwhelming unless your the Roving Clans. Then in that case they where crazy strong.

Broken Lords:
I really like the Aesthetics of the BL and since we all can see they are making a return, my only wish is to maybe make their gameplay a bit more interesting. In EL1 it just felt at one point it was way better to ignore production in favor of dusk and just doing a buyout strategy. Not saying it not on point for their lore, but I would like to see it a bit more expanded on and more interesting that also works with their lore.

Everything else sounds great though. A evolving map, I imagine you are changing how minor factions work a bit, a new pop system that was hinted at, and I am sure everything else you have cooking will be great. Also applied for the insider program. Would be more then happy to help playtest, stress test, break things, etc.  :D

I thought Empire plans were a great making your decisions matter. But they were a bit too harsh in EL1 for example if you go full economic turn 80 and your peaceful neighbor goes to war after getting the 50% more health it could be brutal. An elegant solution would be a 10 turn plan instead.

Broken Lords for me is all about the fact that early you do not get free food for growth and can't focus so heavily on production as the other factions. You have to get your economy of the ground much earlier and use it all for population and expansion. Then somewhere around the 3rd era you switch some cities from industry to pure economy and then have to balance your one or two larger cities whether for production or economy. At the same time around 3rd era your quest to conquer an opponents city pops up so the war machine has to start. I think this already forces much more interesting gameplay decisions than for example the Wild Walkers or the Cultists. Although I love all three factions.

I think a better approach for empire plans would be a system that lets players freely invest points into perks when the influence is available. The old system made it so you wanted to create cities every 20 turns and made it so you would limit your diplo actions with other factions at times to meet the influence cost.  Also the old system encourage players to actually settle early to get the bonus yields and then raze those city by turn 19 and then resettle after you did your plan. They might end up doing something like they did in ES2 with it.

I think the system can be much better for the broken lords if they had other unique mechanics that interacted with dust that is not directly tied to buying out stuff all the time.

I hope that this game plays much like the original. That style was very unique and fun.

I have Civ and Stellaris and GalCiv for those overall game mechanics. The Endless Legends system stood out.

Yep. However, the city building was minimalist in EL1. Mostly buying tiles. But I expect the game concepts they did in Humankind will give some inspiration for something new in EL2 to create beautiful cities and various effects with landscape.

Personally when it comes to cities, I would like a hybrid of EL and humankinds systems. Meaning I would like if districts gather all the FIDS around them but still have a limit on jobs your population can work that can be increase by building infrastructure buildings. Something like that. But regardless whatever they decide to do, I am sure it will be great.

Came here to say the same thing. No matter what 4X game I move onto, I can't get EL out of my head. The systems were exceptional.
