Like EL1, give us a game's manual... Please

As it says on the tin.

It's honestly not necessary, but just having a PDF manual like EL1 tickles something in my cold, dead heart, reminding me of a time when you could find cool things in the manual that comes with the game you purchased.

I'd like a Cyclopedia in-game.

Amplitude create complex game concepts and it's often blurry from player point of view.

I'm replaying a bit Endless Space 2, and the game is really complicated.

There are still game concepts I don't know to use, like "hack".

Nested tooltips like a Paradox game would be good if we are going to get complicated game mechanics, especially now that combat units have spells.

It's definitely a cool idea that I'd love to see, too. You could call it the Endless Codex or something similar.

Nested tooltips are 100% a modern QoL perk in grand strategy/4X that I'd love to see arrive into the series.

Ah, the memories. I second this. A manual would be awesome.

For the moment, an in-game encyclopedia is not planned.BUT YES to Nested Tooltips 👀
We are discussing internally on other ways to help players to find information, like the creation of a fandom wiki, etc.

Awesome!
If an in-game encyclopedia is ever considered, I'd love to see Jeff and the writing/narrative team flex their muscles and fill out the world with more blurbs and fluff text, or at least act as a hub for all the current fluff text.

Something is needed to help new players such as myself. I come from Civ and HK and I am having trouble getting started with the things that are different from those games like anomalies for instance. What can you do about them when they are in your city? I could go on but I hope you get the picture.

For the "first-time experience players," we have Hints that will help (like short explanations).
We are working on a full tutorial, but I am not sure if it will arrive for the Early Access or rather the full release.

Nope to PDF manual - outdated with the first update/patch. :) Even internal encyclopedia requires a lot of updates with new versions of the game usually.

The ideal game would have user interface built in a way that everything is self-explanatory. But it is tough to build like this I believe.

Nested Tooltips would be great help. :)

If at all possible, please try to test and iterate the full tutorial during Early Access. Lowering the learning curve is a critical factor in growing the fan base early and generating positive buzz. Getting early feedback and making sure the onboarding experience is awesome on release day could make a big difference in reviews that encourage other gamers and grow the community (read: more sales).

Back in the early days of Endless Legend I, I tried to get friends and family to play. Several who tried told me it was too confusing. One friend who ran his own Civ server for years just couldn't get into Endless Legend because the mechanics were too unfamiliar. I'm certain that with a great in-game introduction to the mechanics, most of these friends would have been regular players and advocates instead of walking away without really giving the game a fair shot.

Yeah, I would call it critical, too. After playing for a bit, you do get overloaded. Luckily, I could lean on other game systems, but even then, that only went so far.

I really leaned on watching YouTube playthroughs by a game content maker named SB.

I know Firaxis had an arrangement with some of the Civ VI streamers that gave them early access and contact with the team to answer questions and provide feedback on Civ VII before it came out. I wonder if Amplitude could do something similar with the biggest EL1 streamers (and maybe other 4x streamers) to encourage some focused tutorial content right when EL2 releases?

Sure, they could sign up for the Early Access like anyone else, but if Amplitude reached out and made them feel wanted/special, that kind of thing fosters a lot of good will. EL1 never got a ton of buzz on YouTube (the only steady content I remember was SB). It would be really nice to change that with EL2.
