I'm reading the cantos of Hyperion (volume 1), I'm in the first 150 pages now and I found :

- The Horatio name

- Mention of clones

- Some 4-arm creature which seems to have some sort of exo-skeleton armor and claws

- mention of a buried and forgotten civilization

I think I will find more parallels with ES :)

(don't spoil !)

This one have more "hey ? wut ? I-think-I-know-what-you-did-Amplidudes ?" effect than the Culture books from Ian Banks :)

(or Asimov... Or P K Dick, which I'm a huge fan of).

I have just read a crazy book called "Instrumentality of Mankind" (Les seigneurs de l'instrumentalité en français) . Those are 3 books divided in independent but linked stories in the same universe. The books are short, but the universe is incredibly deep and creative. It's also a big thinking about humanity, power, and history. It's hard to describe even one page of this, so if you find it, buy it, read it.

I 'm finishing The Three Body Problem by Liu Cixin, it's a very good read.

I like how they used the (upcoming) movie's poster for the cover of the French edition :

In french only, unfortunually:

Janua Vera

Gagner la guerre

Both books by Jean-Philippe Jaworski.

To me, this is the french Georges M. Martin. If you liked "Les rois maudits" ("The Accursed Kings", by Maurice Druon), which describes the vicissitudes of a medieval plot, I would dare to say that Gagner la guerre is even better than Game of Thrones.

Janua Vera is a short novel compilation that help to understand the universe. It is really well-written, I'd recommend to read it first.

The texts use literary french (like the first french translater of "game of thrones", or "les rois maudits") : if you can't read those in french, it's probably not a good idea to read this. But these novels are a real gem, something quite exceptionnal, really.
