Game won't load, resolution error

I plugged my laptop into an external monitor to play on a larger screen.  I messed about with the resolution until it looked good, and it played fine. Now, however, when I try to start the game without the screen plugged in, it aborts at the "Tempest" title screen, and gives the following error message:

"Couldn't switch to requested monitor resolution

Details:

Switching to resolution -15x-39 failed, trying lower one
All resolution switches have failed
Screen: could not switch resolution (-15x-39 fs=0 hz=-1301067280)"

The game will start if the other monitor is plugged in, and I can then move it to the laptop screen, adjust the displays appropriately, und unplug the external monitor. It runs just fine, then.

My system specs are below. On Windows 10.

I've updated my drivers, and followed the troubleshooting steps in this thread.  Although the steps weren't exact, there is already a profile loaded for Endless Legends in the Radeon settings.

I've run as an Admin, tried compatibility mode, tried deleting the Endless Legends file in Documents and restarting, uninstalled and re-installed twice.

output_log.zip

There is no registry.xml in the Documents directory.  Actually, no users file at all, just Save Files and Temporary Files.

There is one in the install directory

Registry.zip

Hope you can help!

The resolution the game is trying to switch to seems to be very, very wrong ^^ (-15x-39 fs=0 hz=-1301067280)

It should look something like this, IMO : 1920x1080 fs=0 hz=60

The Registry.xml should be located here:

C:\Users\duncs\Documents\Endless Legend\Users\218221414\

This is what I have in my file:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<Registry xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema">
<Settings>
<Video>
<Fullscreen>True</Fullscreen>
<Resolution>1280x720 (60)</Resolution>
<VSyncCount>0</VSyncCount>
<RefreshRate>60</RefreshRate>
<QualityLevel>Fastest</QualityLevel>
<TargetFrameRate>100</TargetFrameRate>
<EnableTrailers>True</EnableTrailers>
<EnableCutscenes>True</EnableCutscenes>
</Video>

[rest of the file truncated]

Could you double-check whether the file is indeed not there?

Yeah, it is indeed not there.  I attempted to force the game to rewrite the files in ...\Documents\... by erasing ...\EndlessLegend\... in between uninstalling and re-installing the game. It hasn't loaded correctly yet, after that, so, I assume it hasn't yet written the Registry.xml file, unless it should have on re-install?  It has re-created the Endless Legend file, and loaded \Save Files\ and \Temporary Files\ inside, though.

And, yes, I agree the resolution is very wrong!

What I'm thinking is:

- uninstall the game again (sorry, I know it's a PITA), and delete the folder again

- connect your external monitor and install the game

- launch the game, change some settings (graphics detail, sound levels, etc.)

- start a game session and complete a few turns

- exit the game

Here's to hoping that the last two steps would determine the game to write the file.

Another idea would be to connect your external monitor, select a really low resolution (like 640x480 or 800x600 or similar) and then exit the game and try without the monitor.

Third idea would be to try using windowed mode and see if the game starts without the external monitor. Again, I'd try selecting a really low resolution...

So, I skipped the uninstall, but completed the rest of those first steps...  Success!!

I actually don't know if I had ever re-started with the external monitor connected after I had removed the Endless Legends folder from documents, but, it's there now, and I have had a successful launch after a system re-boot.  So...

Thanks for the help!
