Mouse registers spurious double clicks ONLY when Endless Legend is running

I know this sounds weird.

I know it sounds like I don't know what I am doing.  I am an IT professional with 34 years of on the job experience (yes I am 54).

I often play this game while doing 'hurry up and waits' for work at night.  I alt tab out to do something in RDC and then alt tab in to play while that something is completing.  This issue is NOT limited to times when I am using RDC.

I first noticed this when I found it difficult to select population points to move them to another column.   I then noticed that I was getting stray double clicks when logged in to my computer at work.  I changed mice.  NO change.  I checked drivers, no later driver.  Then I realized that this problem only occurs when I have Endless Legend running.  As long as I am not playing, I have no mouse issues.  As soon as I start playing... BOOM.

I think this started last week.  It took me a little while to make the connection between EL running and the problem showing up so I am sadly unsure.  I have not had the game for a very long time and it is possible that it has been an issue the whole time.  I am only getting to the point where I am happy to micromanage my population.  I wish I had better information for you on when it started or if it was always there.  In game I notice it most when moving population.

My Specs are:

Microsoft Windows 10 Pro

Version 10.0.14393 Build 14393

MSI Motherboard

Intel(R) Core (TM) i7-6700 CPU @ 3.4 GHz

Bios - American Megatrends Inc 2.70, 2/23/2016

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070

I am playing Endless Legend Tempest 64 Bit - 1.5.13 s3

I have not included a save game file as it happens all the time.

In Game Settings:

I have turned the graphics up to the highest level and have capped the frame rate to 60.

I am playing in 1920x1080.

I also have in game battle animations turned to the fastest setting.

I looked for the steam CD keys but have not been able to find it with the instructions on your 'Reporting a bug' guidelines.

I have arranged for this account to be linked to my steam account if that helps.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Any suggestions?

I believe this may be a thing in Windows 10.

Have a look at these threads:

Some fixes I'd suggest are listed here:

Thanks for the ideas.  I certainly appreciate your help!

I have read some of these and taken some of the steps (i.e. power management)

Still looking for answers.  If I find a solution, I will post back here.

Update:

I think I found the problem...

I had the music muted.  Not just turned down... muted.

I unmuted the music... No problem

I muted the music ... problem.

So my issue is solved.

Thanks for the help and I hope the dev team knows why this happened.  Stranger things have happened.

EDIT

Actually it has not gone totally away but it is much better.
