  • Issue - Hosting games with >1MB saves will results in an infinite loading screen for other players
  • Version - 1.6.2 S3 (All DLC exept Inferno, 4 mods shown here.) The issue occured also without mods.
  • Game save Turn 110-  AutoSave 110.zip (1015KB in .sav format)
  • Game save Turn 118 - Drakkens - Tour 118 - COOP.sav

Everyone verified game cache.

Running the program as admin / win7 compat doesn't change anything.

Hosting the previous save (8 turns before) works but saving after 1MB will cause the same problem.

Everyone can host and load the save alone, but other won't load, and are stuck at "waiting for game data". This occurs when they join through lobby or when the game is already loaded.

The host seems to send minimal data through the EL process.


Playing on medium/small maps with less bots solve the problem, as the save file is much smaller.

Largest map, 3 players, 5 bots : the bug occur at around turn 60

Large map 3 players, 4 bots : turn 120

Medium map 3 players, 3 bots : no issues at turn 200+


I will do more testing using Wireshark.

We are investigating the issue. If you have a >1MB save (without enabled mods), it could help us ^^.

Is a 1Mb save still needed? Or you can also quickly generate a max size save (with custom generation settings, something like 120x180 or larger) and with 7 bots, which should be around 1Mb.


I didn't had time to check if it was a network issue or not, but I guess you managed to find out what were causing that bug.

Hello,

My frieds and I have been having this same issue for the past year.  Is it possible there is really a fix in place?


We have all of the expansion packs, up through Inferno, and highly enjoy the gameplay.  The issue is when we're up around or over 100 turns, the save game file size creeps past the 1MB threshold and from that point on none of the non-host players autosave operations are successful and manual saving does not work either.  Only the host is able to save from then on and attempting to load those saved games over 1MB at a future date result in the game loading process hanging at the transferring game data stage... indefinitely.

Seems odd, I suggest having all players change their steam download region to match (A setting in the steam client (not to be confused with steam store region))

As I've had issues with joining MP games when steam download regions are too far apart.

Agreed, this has not been resolved.  So frustrating.  This issue has been going on for a very long time and prevents our group from ever finishing our multiplayer games.  This is one of the only things preventing us from moving on to Endless Space.  Is there any research being done on this bug?
