[Solved] 64 bit crash on startup, 32 bit constant crashes to desktop.

Hi there,

I love this game but have so many errors and bugs with it that I don't know where to begin. I have tried all of Frog's fixes on this forum and nothing has worked. In summary, the issue is:

- Attempting to launch the game in 64bit: crash to desktop after the 'Endless Legend Symbiosis' splash screen;

- Launching the game in 32 bit: can join a (multiplayer) game, but get constant crashes to desktop with no error message and frequent steam disconnections. I also get a strange visual bug in game where the images are all scrambled (the artwork is missing, and it looks like one of those colourblind tests full of random pixels) - I will get a screenshot and edit this post to include it. In summary, I can usually play a turn or two before everything goes sideways and the errors happen no matter what multiplayer game I join.

Things I have tried:

1. Running the .exe as administrator;

2. Running the game in Windows 7 Compatibility Mode;

3. Reinstalling the game;

4. Deleting my 'Mono' folder and verifying my steam files to reinstall the missing files;

5. Ensuring the 'Endless Legend' folder has permission to read and write;

6. Using the --disable-ai command on startup;

7. Using the -force-opengl command on startup;

8. Using the -useembedded command on startup;

9. Forcing the nVIDIA graphics card in the NVIDIA Control Panel

Here are my latest errors:

1. output_log.txt

2. output_log.txt

3. output_log.txt

Specs:

Windows 10, x64

i9-11980HK @2.60 GHz

Physical Memory: 64 GB

Virtual Memory: 73.2 GB

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080, GeForce Game Ready Driver version 471.41 (latest drivers).

Endless Legend game version: 1.8.52 S3 (32bit) (I can only get to this screen with the 32 bit version).

I would link my CD key so you can verify my account, but there is no option to view any CD key when right clicking the game on Steam (nor is it under 'Properties').

I love this game and my wife does too, would love to play it but right now it is unplayable. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks for the suggestions, Groo. So far those launch suggestions have not helped get past the splashscreen in 64bit mode - I tried playing through the single player tutorial in 32bit with it and it seemed ok (no crashes to desktop). Will test multiplayer and let you know how it goes.

Update: tried both those launch commands, and continue crashing to desktop with no error message in multiplayer mode (32 bit), I occasionally also freeze and am forced to restart the computer (when I do so, it tells me that the NET Broadcast Window is preventing the restart). Neither option helps getting past the splashscreen on 64bit mode. The crashes happen every turn, occasionally I get two turns if I am lucky.

Does anyone know if there is a Discord/a different forum where it's possible to try and resolve issues? Seems it is pretty quiet here :)

Update: I looked around on the steam forums and found a way to get past the splashscreen in 64bit following the below instructions:

"At the bottom left of your computer next to the windows button there should be a search bar. Click on it and type “env”. Then proceed to click on “edit the system environment variables”.There should now be a new window with the words system properties at the top.Click on environment variables near the bottom of the new window.Now click on the “new” that’s just above “ok” and “cancel”.Put "OPENSSL_ia32cap" as your Variable name and "~0x20000000" as value.Now click ok to add it.Proceed to click on ok again this time the one at the window that has the system variables on it.Now endless legend will work."

No idea what else the above has done to my computer but happy I got this far! Will test multiplayer and see if the crashes keep happening.

Next update: it works beautifully! I can play 64bit Endless Legend crash free in multiplayer with the above fix. I'm soooo happy :D

This did not work for me, and I have the same crash-on-Endless Legend screen issue.  :(

Not working any method. Going to DESKTOP  after logo screen.

P.S.: I found this recently (https://steamcommunity.com/app/289130/discussions/0/3040480634928914016/)

 I was helped by the addition of an antivirus in the exceptions.

I followed these instructions after hours of trying to troubleshoot the problem and it worked! Never tampered with those particular Windows menus before for a video game but I'm glad that I had some faith in them. I hope future people will find this post helpful like I did. Please note my system specs are Windows 10 x64, and I am using the Steam version of the Definitive Edition. I note that a few posts above me it did not work for them, potentially due to anti-virus flagging? (my AVS did not flag Endless Legend at any point however)
