Computer shuts down randomly while launching or playing Endless Legend

Hi everyone. I've recently bought this game on the steam sale like many others on this subreddit and after a lot of googling I seem to be the only one with this issue. The game causes my computer to completely shut down and reboot with no warning whatsoever. I know it's just Endless Legend because I don't seem to have any problems with other games, even more intensive ones like shadow of mordor.

Here are my computer specs:

Intel Core i5 4690k

Nvidia GeForce GTX 970

8GB G.Skill RAM

MSI Z97-G45 mobo

At this point I'm positive it's related to Endless Legend specifically. I don't have any power supply issues or memory issues after testing both.

Here are some diagnostics logs and an output_log.

I've poured over the information in those logs but can't seem to find an answer. If anyone can help that would be greatly appreciated thank you!

Same problem and same nvidia card. I solved it by turning down the graphics and setting the vsync thing to 2-1.

Thanks for the response. That's kind of frustrating to hear. The game looks absolutely gorgeous on highest setting and I'm pretty disappointed that the solution to be able to run this game is to turn down the graphics settings. Just received this graphics card and it's the first time in a while that I'm able to run games on the highest settings. Oh well.

Again, thanks for the response. Hope the devs can chime in hear too. If I need to post more information please let me know!!

If your computer is shutting down entirely thats more a hardware issue than a software one. The softwaer is just exposing an underlying hardware issue. Likely your power supply is under powred.

If that were the case with other games I would be with you but the fact that this issue only occurs and has only ever occurred with this game makes me skeptical. Currently running 750W power supply that's about four years old. Doubt that's the issue. Also, software can definitely trigger responses in hardware in weird ways. What do you think mediates the interaction between the physical hardware and user input? Software does.

Still looking for a solution here.

Gonna bump this because it happened again today while scrolling out to see the full map. Any solutions yet?

Hello there! smiley: smile

I've seen that you own a Nvidia Graphic Card 970. One or two weeks ago, another player detected an issue with this graphic card. We added the workaround that he mentioned : here (You can also test the other workarounds)

We suggest you to install the 344.11 drivers from the website Gigabyte.com: link

Cheers,

Was a better solution ever found for this? If not, has Amplitude tried to address it themselves any in the year since it started? A friend of mine recently upgraded and is having the issue, and is still having it after trying the workaround regarding the 344.11 drivers. I can't imagine you guys are going to lock out gamers with a new and popular graphics card through inaction.

I am the friend mentioned above.

While none of the suggestions have helped, the problem is VERY specific and VERY easy to replicate. It only happens when zooming out to view the full map, about 16-18 mouse wheel clicks from zoomed all the way in. This is where the map goes from 'low detail' to 'even lower detail'. It will not do this on a brand new game, or a save that was just loaded. It seems to be triggered when more of the map is explored. I can't explain this, because the computer needs a full reboot after the crash so it's not like anything is being stored in memory. The game sometimes appears to continue to run after the screen(s) go dark.

There are absolutely no other problems, only the above thing with the map. Game runs like a charm otherwise.

Hey guys,

We've got our own set of 970s in the office and they're apparently running without a hitch, so this might be something that only happens in conjunction with other hardware. Could I ask for your most recent diagnostics file so we can look into this?

It's normally located here:

C:\Users[USERNAME]\Documents\Endless Legend\Temporary Files

Thanks!

Hey, just so you know the bug still exists after the Forges of Creation update, but it is much less common now. If I get it to trigger again I'll post another diagnostic.

Sorry to hear it still exists, I guess the silver lining is that as you said it doesn't happen as often. Also I just realized you're that person who does the videos! Hi! smiley: wink
