Multiplayer AI / sync issue

Hello:

My son and I just started playing Endless Legend together yesterday (love it!). We are playing on Steam, multiplayer, an Internet game--although he sits on the couch and me at a desk 6 feet away: I host on our home comp, my son over wi-fi on his Mac Book Pro.

All was well for about 8 hours, but then about turn 150 we started getting an issue with it getting out of sync about every 4 or 5 turns. We kept going, thinking it was our connection. We don't have the most amazing internet speed in rural mid-Michigan, but good enough to play Civ, etc. We re-synced, restarted, etc., but after a few more hours we gave up. The next day we tried again, but it was the same out of sync issue, although a bit less frequently.

But what's worse, for some reason, the AI also keeps taking over my son's game between turns, even while we're in sync. It buys troops and heroes for him, moves his units, manages his pop, etc. When I scroll over his color "dot" in the lower right corner, it ever says his name, then "(AI)." All this is when we are synced.

We saw online others say this happens once in awhile, and they say to just restart; we do, and it just happens again. Any help or advice? It's really ruining the enjoyment of this great game.

Thanks!

I guess you play large map, possibly with up to 8 players. So the one who's joining could get connection issues later in game. You better play normal map up to 6 players. Should work better then from my experience.

Much fun

No, unfortunately it was a six player map. You might be right, though that it is the amount of information, as it did not start with the snc/lag issue until late in the game (turn 150). We have now started a second game (still 6 players: 2 human, 4 AI) and no issues as of turn 50. We'll wait and see if it occurs again around turn 150.

Thanks for trying, Groo!

Any other ideas are greatly appreciated!

What you describe is, as Groo suggests it, typically a problem susceptible to be alleviated by reducing the amount of information exchanged. In map generation settings, in the World map bit, hit up Advanced Parameters, and maybe reduce the amount of anomalies, luxury and strategic resources.

Whenever the AI takes over, this means that there was a desync, however short. Only completely reloading the game for both players will bring the booted player back in the game, as after a desync the AI still retains control of your faction.
