Drastic Framerate Drop After Forges of Creation Update

Greetings! I'd firstly like to start with saying I love this game to death, it's one of the most beautiful of it's kind I've ever played and there's a million things I could list off that I enjoy about it, but that's not what this thread is for.

The issue I've been having is that once the Forges of Creation update was released, my game, from video intros and the main menu to the landscape in game while playing, has had a massive drop in FPS to the point it's no longer playable (I could play if I really, really wanted to, but it would be terribly slow). Now the funny part is is that the main menu FPS drop only happens on two of the many backdrop animations available. I forget the first, but the second is the Wild Walkers, I believe. Where there's that giant ethereal (or water, cant tell) two horned beast that's just kind of chilling out next to the green and gold city and a boat with a leaf for a sail eventually moves in from off screen. All other main menu backdrops run at the perfectly smooth FPS I had before Forges of Creation. The game also has smooth FPS when in menus that encompass the entire screen (empire menus, options, game creation screen, etc.)

Another tidbit I've noticed is that when I play a save game that I had running before this update, which did not run on Forges of Creation, it runs at the smooth FPS. Yet when I start a new game under the same empire and with Forges of Creation now integrated, it runs at the choppy unplayable FPS. Both save games will be included below in my information. I've also noticed tweaking graphical settings has minimal to no impact on the FPS. Before this update I ran everything at max graphics and it ran smooth and beautiful. I've tried changing the graphic detail to the lowest and all other settings in between, I've tried disabling the depth of view, I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game, ensuring my graphics card/display/sound drivers are updated and other potential fixes for this issue, yet nothing has made any significant change in the issue.

With respect to whomever may respond to this post, it is my personal view, after seeing so many others with the exact same issue, that this will take more than a quick fix on my end. But that's my opinion and I'll try anything suggested and report if the fix given is successful or not.

That's really all I can think of detail-wise as far as explaining the issue.

Information:

Game Version: V1.3.0 S3 (64-bit)

OS: Windows 7 64-bit

Processor: Intel i7-3770 3.40GHz

RAM: 16GB

Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 7500

DLCs Installed: Echoes of Auriga Add-On, Guardians Expansion Pack, Shadow Expansion Pack (the only splash screen I see when I start the game), The Lost Tales Add-On, Frozen Fangs Add-On, Amplitude Badge - As listed under Steams Endless Legend game info pages' DLCs section.

As far as the Registry.xml file, I couldn't tell which one was my user registry over my boyfriends who uses the same computer and Steam on his separate Steam account, so I've included both. I don't feel screenshots are necessary, even though there's choppy FPS, a picture will still capture the beautifully rendered game and not really show you anything at all about my issue. I'm also not including multiplayer Dump files as I've never played this game on multiplayer (as much as I'd really like to, I just don't know anyone else who has it).

Thank you for the report, we will look into it. smiley: approval

There's been another thread about this issue: link. What is suggested is to disabled the depth of field, so let us know if that helped.

I read that thread before creating my own and as mentioned in my original post, toggling Depth of Field made no noticeable difference.

Yes, my apologies, I meant to edit when I re-read it but forgot (blame mornings and multitasking)! Other threads are discussing this issue, but apart from this workaround that worked for some but not for everyone, we're still trying to find a solution so we'll keep you posted.

Well, thank you for your timely responses. I posted that at around 2:30 am my time and honestly did not expect a response until today sometime. I'll be patiently waiting (and playing Endless Space in the meantime) for a fix if you guys happen to find one.

Has any solution been found? I haven't played Endless Legend since encountering this issue, because it is practically unplayable. I would very much like to play again.

In the absence of any other solution, is there any way I can revert my game back to a pre Forges of Creation environment?

Well, I've seen no solution yet, and as such Endless Legend is just taking up space as a broken game on my computer, so I'll be deleting it. I'm still eagerly waiting for a fix, if there is going to be one.

Hey Trisemigistus, sorry about the lack of response. We released a patch basically one or two days after your second-to-last message. It was supposed to address most framerate issues, along with FOW problems.

Did you get a chance to try it out? Did that help in any way?

I redownloaded the game after reading your message, Frogsquadron. When it completed, I eagerly started it up and a ran a test game, and I daresay it's running as smooth and beautifully as it did before. Thank you guys for making a wonderful game, and the assistance I recieved here. I am grateful the issue has been resolved so I may continue to enjoy this game.
