Unify different unit designs

During the course of the game I bought several units from market. I finally learnt how to fit equipment on them but I found some issues: basically each unit has a different design, each one with the same name. I want to rationalize this mess, and have only one design to apply to ALL units of the same type.



I'll have to edit the savegame with a XML editor, I just opened it and looking into it... but which would be the most effective procedure to follow?

1) delete all duplicates

2) put all units of the same type in an army

3) save game and try to edit the file from there?



Also, I would like to ADD a design for an unit type of a defunct empire of which i have 4 units and I like them! but it doesnt let me create a design for them.

Since all these designs probably only have marginal differences you don't bother about I think it's safe to just hit the delete button until you keep 1 Ice warg and 1 Daemon design and update these with new weapons/armor/.. when you see fit. Also note that removing a design doesn't kill the remaining units you have of that design, so there's really no point in keeping all these designs.

You only can add new units from templates that:

-are from your faction

-from a minor faction you assimilated



Though I assume you could add it to the XMLs of your savefile (by for example copying the broken lords unit's XML code from the default game files)

I'll try deleting all in game first and then recheck a new savefile, so hopefully I wont mess up.



I did buy those other units on market so I think it's a bug that it didnt create a design template for them.

OK this time worked, a step at a time.

I'm trying to find the missing designs now, which are:



1) Jotus - Ettin [IGNTetike]

2) Delvers - Dwarf [IGNDredge]

I bought them on the market, and I don't have ranged units for my race (Drakken) and 3 units/race are too few. The game did allow me to make a custom design for the Daemon, which I also bought, so why not on these? I believe it's a bug, caused by the fact that that race has been wiped from the game. At 6th Era go with uequipped units is a no-go, they don't stand a chance when fighting Necros.



I hope a patch will fix this... since adding designs editing the savegame proved to be beyond my skills. If I just copy the right "Unit" from the hidden ones, the game crashes (besides XML notepad to be EXTREMELY slow in doing such). I'm going to give another try with cut and paste, then hope someone else will help or I'll have to give up on these units (keep as garrison or such) and use only what's available in my armies.

edit: nope still broken, the applied designs made the entire army disappear

ok for some strange reason i had to use the ID of the units in army onto the design and not vice versa.
