Remove tech cost ramping?

Is there a mod to rebalance the tech costs in order to removing the tech cost ramping? I checked the mod shopping mall and couldn't find anything.



On a related note, what is the point of this mechanic? I'm not sure what it's trying to accomplish.

It's possible, but nobody's done it yet. I suspect because it requires a fair bit of manual work: you'd have to re-calculate all the values of every tier of science by hand and input them.



As it currently stands all technologies in the game have the same 'base' cost, which is multiplied by the number of techs you have and by the era the tech is found in. So to rewrite things means that to avoid everything being a paltry 30ish science to unlock you'd need to re-enter values for every single technology.



As for the point of the mechanic I can only speculate. Maybe because unlike other 4x games your earlier techs remain useful, even late into the game. The best industry and science buildings are unlocked in age 1, and things like +army size, and new units retain their value throughout the game. Having this way of ramping technology costs makes choosing when to get a technology really important and meaningful, while still allowing an empire who isn't focusing on that particular part of the game to compete at a reasonable, if reduced, level.

Do you mean the tech cost jump every time you reach a new era?



If so, there is an easy way to tweak it (as far as I remember I did some work about it while I was modding the game)

I mean the tech cost jump every time I research a tech.



It does seem relatively simple to tweak. There's a TechnologyCost variable based on UnlockedTechnologyCount, you just set that to a constant value instead of using the forumula and then use the era multipliers to modify how much each era should cost. The only reason I haven't modded it yet is because I'm not certain how much I actually want things to cost in each era. Just gotta do some play testing.
