Any way to add/mimic a notification?

Hi there,

I've been looking to mod for myself (at first and if it works without the tape falling out why not the workshop) a civilization v-like reminder for when I click end turn it would give me a warning to use unspent action points on my armies and garrisons.

A similar effect is possible by clicking the special icon to see how many armies await orders but I don't feel like it's enough, and it doesn't take garrisons in account.

It's a particular pain to realize that you really wanted to move that settler just after you created it and you forget to move it. I know there is a notification for successfully building a unit that shows in a list but if you somehow mindlessly closed it the game will never remind you that your settler is garrisoned. Which is the bane of anyone trying to min-max and play performance oriented (for "serious" difficulty and above). Obviously it's less important for cruise play but I feel that it's overall a missing feature.

If you think that's hard to mod or mimick, or maybe its even impossible I don't know, wait till I ask for that: a reminder of when you reach the 4th turn of declaring a warning or expressing a compliment, that your declaration of war or peace will cost you less, this reminder would pop again 2 turns later reminding that the window of lower influence cost is now less ideal (since this is vanilla mechanic of diplomacy).

Various notifications that I could think of, linked to the market activity for example (although I saw some of them are already existing for that particular market area) would reinforce even more the experience but I put them in much lower priority as I've already lost my focus in countless games because of this absence of unspent action notification that I expect naturally to happen, having played a lot of civ5.

Basically it would mean creating new notifications similar in effect as the red one you get for not having selected a research (the icon in question has a special effect compared to regular one and stops you from ending your turn once, a mechanic found in civ 5 as well) and really feels like a strong reminder, which is really appreciated for preventing scenarios like forgetting to move a certain army and get it melted by roaming armies/other players or AI because you were focused elsewhere.

In civilization v I find that little trick incredibly useful for staying focused on the bigger picture instead of conditioning yourself to look for all and any armies in your empire at every turn, so you can cruise control it by being reminded by the game. I actually don't mind that much the micromanagement but only if there is enough notifications.

From what I've read from the manual,

Just in case: I have checked all the available vanilla notifications options and there isn't a setting for what I am describing.

tl;dr: Is it possible to add new notifications similar to the "no research are selected?" one? Those are special and block the end of a turn and only once per click and turn.

On a side-note, I will definitely mod something to find a compromise allowing exploited ruins to be useful. And yes I know constructing an exploitation over a ruin is impossible or at least way too much of a hassle, that's why I'll look for something discreet. More on that when I fully figure out the modding tutorial!

Thanks

Hello Denizou,

I'm pretty sure a notification requires an event to be triggered and events are code-related...

I will ask about this to be sure but in the meantime do not hesitate if you need more info, especially concerning what has been written in the mod tutorial smiley: smile

Cheers,
