Broken Lords Midrash

The broken Lords background is filled with mystery and unexplainable events. I have created a large collection of LORE for the history of Auriga. This might not be the true lore, but it will entertain you and get you thinking.

ACT 1: Isolation

When the endless settled Auriga, there were no virtuals at the time. There were different belief systems the endless followed and since their last planet was destroyed by them, they wanted to make sure Auriga would not fall to the same fate. Of the many different ideologies, there was a group of noble families that did not wish to deal with the politics of the endless anymore and went into isolation in the mountains behind the forest of the wild walkers.

There was a treaty in place with the Wild Walkers that no endless would mettle with their woodlands in exchange for peace. Seeing destruction for centuries, the endless were quick to agree and this small group of families left the main group to go into isolation. They thrived and created a prosperous kingdom where the nobility protected the lower class from the wilds and spread the wealth and dust collected. It was a good time in history.

The endless then sent out colony ships to bring all the races they had met in the galaxy to the planet of Auriga. It was to be a planet of diplomacy for the entire universe. Many disagreed with the collectivism of the endless. So much so that small skirmishes broke out all the time. Eventually a small sect broke off considering themselves divine in nature. Their technology was immense and they did not respect life…

ACT 2: Infiltration

The isolationist on the mountain received visitors from time to time but one particular visitor intrigued them. He said he was a dust cultist. He could manipulate dust to do many impressive things. He gave knowledge to creatures deemed useless and created an entire working class. He helped develop tools to make their cities stronger and weather resistant. The isolationists loved this man. Even the Great Lords fancied him as an equal. Such was his plan.

What the Lords of the mountain did not know was that he was not experimenting on the lesser life forms or the machinery they used. He was to experiment on them. Their isolation allowed any incidents to go unnoticed. His cult, who we now know at the virtuals wanted to ascend the mortal plane but testing is extremely dangerous and uncharted. Any word of their work would have them all executed.

The Virtuals knew that if things went wrong they would need a contingency plan so they brought an alien race from another planet to deal with Auriga should they fail. This is how the Necrophages came to Auriga. Their developed toxins were like a plague to the endless and to the concrete’s knowledge, they were exterminated. The Virtuals took their eggs though and spread them all across Auriga and harvested the toxins for themselves.

Act 3: Ascension?

One day, the cultist decided to risk it all in his research. He infected a couple of the villagers with the Necrotoxin. They began to spread it through the city and before a week had past a third of the population had died. The rest were severely sick as people were coughing up blood and guts. The lords of the mountain spoke with the cultists to find a cure. What they found was something very different.

The cultists told them the plague was too aggressive and the did not have the time to find a cure before everyone died. The only other option was an experimental procedure that would fuse their bodies with dust, ascending them into a new life form. The lords were hestitant and decided to forego that idea and had a couple of their doctors aid the cultist in finding a cure.

Several weaks went by and there were only 6000 people left. 14,000 had died already. The lords grew desperate and gave in on the cultist’s idea. He showed them to an underground chamber the size of the mountain they lived on. The villagers were startled at the sheer size. The Lords asked the cultist what was to happen. All he said was to be patient as he left the chamber.

The lords sat in the chamber on all night with all their citizens. At first light, the chamber filled with radiance. The people were blinded but thought nothing of it. They didn’t notice the steady flow of dust coming in with the rays. The citizens started choking and the lords looked for a way out. Their skin melted off and their flesh dissolved. They screamed in agony. They ripped their armor and clothing off from the pain and within the hour, everyone stood in the chamber, a pillar of dust. Violent and fierce. The lords were pleased that it worked but everything wasn’t as it seemed. Random people in the crowd started exploding.

One of the lords began to explode and decided to strap his armor on as fast as possible. It stayed the explosion. He then ordered everyone to do the same. The armor kept their bodies together. The cultists opened the chamber and let them out. He looked at them and decided it was a failure. He was about to leave the mountain when the lords stopped him and asked what they were to do now. The cultist told them to wait.

Act 4: Betrayal

As they waited for a day, they all grew hungry. Food, however, exploded in their hands. They could not eat or drink as they knew it. The people were going mad. The lords told them to calm down. But they soon realized there was much worse to come. The Necrophages attacked their town. It was a bloodbath on both sides but those that survived the battle, consumed the essence of the necros.

The lords then understood that the soul was the only thing that could sustain their new bodies and they were horrified. They left the mountain and went to speak to the elders of the endless. When they arrived, the people treated them like monsters. They were stopped at the gates and later in the day, an elder approached with many guards to engage them. In their conversation, the lords tried to explain what happened to them but they mentioned something completely against the beliefs of the endless. They tried immortality. The endless refused them and tried to walk away. In his rage, the leader of the lords chained him down with kinetic energy. You could see his soul leaving his body but the lord stopped. He realized he was becoming a monster and told his people to leave. The wild walkers helped them escape as there was no qualms between them and they disappeared into the wilds. Later they found out the Lords of the mountain set up a new city and still tries to stay isolated, but not for themselves. They isolate themselves for the safety of everyone else. Their honor is at stake.

Even with this said, there were those who gave into the hunger. Those people left the town and ran off into the wilderness to feed. These people became corrupted and only wished to prey on the living. We now know them as the haunts but they are really fallen Lords.

There's a subforum for fanfiction and since this is really getting buried in the common forum sections, I'll move it, so you don't have to bump it, all the time. smiley: wink

Very interesting history. smiley: dust It is similar to history of occurrence of Rubric of Ahriman (the spell of disposal of a curse of sudden mutations has transformed spacemarines in golems from magic in an empty armour).

And as, on history of occurrence Necrons - C'tan with a deceit have devoured showers almost all Necrontyr, in exchange having given race of a body from alive metal.
