Please explain to me as if I were a total noob what is exactly the bonus from being on higher ground in EL 1.1.1?

No answer? Yeah, why bother answering simple questions...

I don't use any mods and the units with the high ground status effect don't have any accessories.

afair, before the latest update the high ground bonus was +30% in summer / +60% in winter. So either that's a bug which makes ranged units stronger than ever or an undocumented change.

Guardians are huge super units that can be unlocked via technologies starting the 3rd era until the 5th era. It cannot join an army or a garrison; indeed, it’s a lonely and slow unit but able to defeat an army on it own. Building a Guardian is expensive. It needs to put a site on a free district. When the construction is over, the site collapses to let the Guardian rise.

Note that these super units are immune to debuffs and winter effects, and also have bonus on high grounds. Interesting, huh?

I guess only guardians are supposed to receive the increased high ground bonus but it's applied to all types of units due to a bug.

Hi... High ground means that there is a difference in height between the attacker and the defender. It applies to all units. There is an accessory that provides the "high ground" ability, that *increases* the high ground bonus when the unit is in high ground. The discoveries you are placing is that the high ground bonus is 60%, 120% in winter? Wow... This makes the high ground bonus really a significant one...

Thanks for the effort taken to measure that... smiley: smile

I always thought there were levels of high ground bonuses, based on the difference between attacker and defender - but that would only be in agreement with your broken lord example if the bonus is doubled for melee units. All other examples seem to have two levels of difference between at/df, which would make 30% per level.

No, it doesn't work this way. As abmpicoli said, the bonus is applied if there is a difference in height between the attacker and the defender. It doesn't matter how big that difference is. For some reason the bonus provided by high ground is now doubled (+60%, +120% in winter for all types of units). I can't find any mentions of this change in the release notes and hope that the devs will clarify the matter.

I made a mod that fixes this possible issue. Only the guardian units get doubled high ground bonus.

Good old high ground bonus
