After updating the Skyther unit to an advanced design in the military tab I cannot retrofit the unit. I only get the message that I cannot retrofit the unit because there is no advanced design available.

Is this a unit you earned through a quest? Because of the way the retrofit system works, we've never been able to update these (or mercenaries)...

Yes, got this unit through a quest. It appears as a new unit on the military screen where you can equip your units with weapons, armors and items. After this it is called Skyther 2 (like any other unit if you don't bother to rename them). But you cannot retrofit it on the main screen. Maybe it is a bug that it appears as a unit on the military screen.

If you build a new Scyther, you can retrofit it. However, you can't retrofit units (actual units, not the designs) obtained through quests or mercenaries because you didn't build it and, therefore, it did not come from the source design.

Yes it's annoying but it's the way the system works.

You are right. The Scyther from the quest seems to be locked, but you can built new ones using a different design.
