Roving Clans won Economic victory even after being defeated!

Ok, I'm new to the game, so maybe I don't understand how all this is supposed to work, but I don't think that what is happening in my game makes any sense.

Basically, I've been playing as the Vaulters on a large map with 8 empires. Around turn 250 I can see that the Roving Clans are going to achieve an economic victory soon, because they were at like 90%. So I declared war on them (since I was strong enough by then) and I totally beat them in about 10 turns. I captured all their cities and they were wiped out as a faction. It was a really close run thing though, since they were going up by about 1% in economic victory every turn, so when I captured their last city they were at 99%.

Now it's turn 280 and I am really close to a scientific or score victory (I'm conquering the Drakken now as well). But suddenly I am told that I have been defeated! Because the Roving Clans have achieved Economic victory!! I'm like WHAT! This shouldn't be possible, they are dead, gone, they don't exist as a faction anymore. For some reason though their economic victory score reached 100% on turn 280, at least 10 turns after they'd been destroyed.

What is going on here? Is this a bug? Or is this a feature of the game?

(I know that the Roving Clans get money from all market transactions, but surely that shouldn't be counted after they're dead?)

They are not eliminated until they have lost all cities and Settlers. The game will change their faction icon (under the End Turn button) to a skull. Are you sure there were no Settlers or cities out there? Note that the RC can move their cities via a special ability.

Can you post the "Game Finished" Save?

There is definitely a skull icon over the Roving Clans in the diplomacy screen. I got a pop-up saying they had been eliminated after I captured their last city. I'm almost sure there is nothing left of them, I even got nearly every other faction to declare war on them, so there shouldn't be anywhere for them to hide.

How would I upload a save game?

Yep, it says they were Eliminated in the save. Weird because it looks like their Dust income was negative over the last few turns. Even if the Victory does not exclude "Eliminated" empires, they shouldn't be accumulating anything.

Looks like a bug, I'd post this in the Tech Support section...

I'm moving this to tech support - if I had to guess I'd say that it's their cut of market-place revenues that pushed them over the edge. In theory they shouldn't receive it but we'll check!

Thanks for the report smiley: smile

LOL - that would have been amazing if it had happened in a MP game. EPIC COMEBACK!!!!

Ok, does anyone know a way I can salvage my playthrough? I mean, is it possible to edit the save file to eliminate their wealth? Or can I somehow turn off Economic victory as a possibility in the game? (for this playthough I mean, I know you can turn it off before starting). Because, like I said, this is my first successful playthough and I was really close to victory myself and I'd like to get the achievement and so forth.

This is actually an interesting problem...

Did you per-chance use the market in any way after killing them? It could be a weird thing where their gold total and market ability stay active even after death...

Also, on what turn did you kill them off. If it was on turn 179, it could be they had already achieved the victory condition and it just wasn't announced until the next turn.

(This post is from the closed thread so I'm respond here).

Yes, I'm sure I used the market after they were dead (to buy resources as well as heroes). I think they were dead by turn 260 (approximately) and their "victory" was announced on turn 280.

Seeing as how they were so close to winning that economic victory, and that you used the market after killing them off, I'm definitely putting my money on the roving clans using their market ability after their defeat.

With that in mind, the only thing I could think of to salvage the save would be to go back as far as you can and dont use the market at all, giving resources and dust to other empires so they don't use it either. They only need a little gold. Anyone touching the market could result in them winning...
