OS X El Capitan, V1.2.2 S3 (32-bit), World Gen Problem

Hey guys,

Recently me and many other owners of Endless Legend have been experiencing a problem with world generation after switching to OS X El Capitan. The gist of the problem is that when you try to create a new world (when not in -useembedded mode), the game brings up an error message after saying (trying to connect to server), pretty much rendering the game useless as you can't really play without being able to create a new world. I have literally scoured this forum and other forums for solutions, of any type, and have tried them all. The only one that worked so far is adding "-useembedded" to the steam launch options, but the rendering is very slow using that option, forcing you to lower your game graphics (Which I don't want to do). A solution must be found to this and pushed as a hot fix because the problem is caused by OS X El Capitan's new features, and thus all mac users that keep their computers up to date are most likely experiencing this problem.

Hardware:

I am rocking a Mac Book Pro 13 inch, mid 2014, with a retina display (2560 x 1600).

Processor 2.6 GHz Intel Core i5

Ram 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Graphics Intel Iris 1536 MB

42 Giga Bytes free space

Software:

OS X El Capitan (10.11.1) - latest version

Endless Legend V1.2.2 S3 (32-bit)

Thank you and please forward this to your developers,

Yuval Hermelin,

Steam: chunibuni

Edit 1

If possible, tell me what's going to happen with this bug, as it makes the game pretty much unusable. Thanks!

As the situation currently stands, we're still investigating how best to tackle this issue. With our resources stretched like they currently are, a fix isn't on the horizon just yet.

For the moment, it seems that you will have to resort to the workaround you mention if you want to be able to enjoy the game. I'm not sure what happens if you create a game using the workaround, then restart the game without it and just load your save, but if the issue is linked to world creation itself and not just the rendering of the world when loading the game, that could be a way to circumvent the performance drop.

At the beginning of this month (October 2015) I upgraded my Mac OS to the new El Capitan 10.11 operating system.

This was almost exactly the same time--after doing a lot of basic research--I decided to purchase Endless Legend, on Steam.

However, I decided to make one last check at the Endless Legend Steam forum--and that is when I discovered there were (are) "problems" when trying to play the game on the new Mac OS.

I have since been coming here, daily, reading the back and forth between Endless Legend users and "Frogsquadron."

Actually, I have been hoping hoping hoping that Amplitude would quickly respond to the legitimate and valid complaints of their customers who purchased the game.

What a disappointment. No such luck.

I was finally prompted to make a forum account here after reading the very polite, clear and well-written post by Yuval Hermelin ("chunibuni") and then reading the disappointing (almost insulting) reply.

Frogsquadron I suggest that you skill up in Customer Service. Though, perhaps too, the problem is that English is not your first language?

How can you read what Yuval wrote and then suggest that he should simply use the (so called) "workaround" which, apparently, does NOT work satisfactorily.

You write he should do this " . . . if you want to be able to enjoy the game" ! ? What? He just told you (as others have told you) that he is unable to enjoy the game in its current state. He is suggesting that using the crappy "workaround" (which, I believe, was suggested NOT by the Amplitude team but by an Endless Legend player) is, in fact, not acceptable.

So, since your "resources [are] stretched like they currently are," I too have have decided that my resources (patience, good will, money) likewise are currently stretched too thin to be able to purchase your game.

It is so irritating to see studios, like yours, who happily take peoples' money (a resource) yet suddenly discover that they now "don't have the resources" to support their product.

Kudos to Yuval Heemelin; shame on Amplitude (and their sad attitude).

EDIT 1 to fix a sentence.

Same issues here, and considering macs now account for 67% of the GLOBAL market, you would think they would get their shit together.

NotImplementedException: The game creation process has failed.

Edit 1

I would just like to state that I don't think that it is directly your fault, unlike Bockser. I think that it is Amplitude Studios fault as a whole.

I am also not endorsing Bockser's harsh and unnecessary insults about you, I personally think that Bockser is just very disappointed to figure out he can't buy this great game.

Edit 2

I have deleted my previous comment about your quote because drew4321 has very logically explained to me why it is that you guys might not have an immediate fix.

I believe that a solution has been found to the problem and that the problem was with the mono framework.

A fix would be to download the latest mono framework.

Keep track of updates on this new thread started by Hakko_Ichiu:

/#/endless-legend/forum/23-mac-os/thread/6639-new-version-of-mono-seems-to-solve-many-issues

Edit 1

I tried to download the new mono versions, both the stable and the OS X El Capitan preview, with no success. There is a chance that you must re-download the game after downloading the new mono for it to work, so I will leave it for others to find that out. In case you have a saved game (which is why you don't want to delete and re-download the game) go to your Application Support folder, find Endless Legend, find the Zip file of your saved game in one of the folders and copy it to your desktop. Then delete the application support Endless Legend folder, delete Endless Legend, and re-download. Afterwards, re-paste the file into your application support folder.

The reason I'm not doing so is because my internet connection is not the best, and I don't want to waste my time re-downloading the game.

Be sure to post the results in the forum listed above.

Guys, you are being way too harsh. This is a SMALL studio and cannot always fix every issue immediately especially on apple products which is difficult to make games on in the first place. They are trying there best so try to be glad they are attempting to help all your individual needs. And before you say "oh but it's the groups needs" yeah that might be true but there are so many other group problems they are attending too as well so just be a tad bit patient.

I agree with your reasoning so I removed my harsh comment. Hopefully, Bockser will do the same.

A whole month after El Capitan's release, Endless Legend is still being sold to Mac users with no mention of this defect. The sys-reqs on Steam still say the minimum and recommended operating systems are "MAC OS X 10.8 or higher". Isn't that false and fraudulent? Shouldn't Amplitude either stop selling the Mac version or edit the system requirements until it's fixed?

One other thing. Amplitude may be a small studio. But they had almost four months to test Endless Legend on the El Capitan developer beta before El Cap came out. Even once, on one machine, and they would have discovered this show-stopping bug. Is it responsible of them to say they support platforms they don't proactively test?

Have you played the game recently? The issue with El Capitan was fixed. Please make sure you're playing on the latest version though.
