Hey guys,

Can anyone tell me how to improve empire approval rate?

I can't seem to find the right tech to research to do this.

My two cities are sitting at 55% and 50%.

Thanks!

Well to start, building borugh's lowers your approval rating a bit. You can build certain buildings within your cities such as the sewers and the once off founder memorial to boost your approval as well. I'm fairly certain there's a few more buildings that can boost your approval, but in my experience having your approval at 50-60% isn't a bad thing.

Sewers and city markets both boost approval (market is era 3). Another Era 3 tech is bread/circus, which reduces your expansion approval penalty by 20% (so long as you have 3 cities, this will fully kick in). Other than that you have era 2 empire plan of +25 (I think) approval empire wide- Its the right branch on the graph. Using grapes as a booster will also give you 10 turns of +25 approval. To use boosters go to your empire screen and just click on the resource. This is done in batches, so you'll need a certain amount to do so (the tooltip will tell you the exact #).

Every district will reduce approval by 10%, as will every city you add to your empire. So you typically have to choose between a "tall" empire with large sprawling cities, or a "wide" empire of small cities over larger territory.

As Luke said, 50% is fine. So long as you get your cities over "Unhappy" you will avoid penalties, however getting your cities to"fervent" will also incur bonuses (dust/research boost). All in all city/empire happiness seems rather buggy. I've had a city at 10% approval be "happy" and another at 95% be "rebellious" with all the inherent penalties.

Like some of the others have already said there's tech to improve your approval and I also recommend you build your city on or next to as many anomalies that have approval bonuses as possible. But approval at the moment is pretty buggy since there is no way to keep approval at a steady rate and it will always decline into rebellion if given enough time.

I believe that you also get an Approval bonus for leveled up cities. For example, my city with a level 4 tile has a lot less disapproval than one with only level 1 districts.

There is also a Luxury that gives an Empire-wide approval bonus. You can buy that on the resource market if you don't normally get it.

You can use the Wine resource boost to give +25 approval to all your cities, there's also an option in the Science side of the Empire Plan who gives +25 approval on cities.
