I'm a huge fan of 4X games and TBS in general. Lately my games list has been consisting of Civ V, Age of Wonders 3, Europa Universalis IV, X-Com, Civ V, Endless Space, Fallen Enchantress and Heroes VI. But I'm always looking for new and interesting games to play.

Endless Space felt really fresh and interesting, so I thank you guys for making that. So I have been playing some early access Endless Legend now and I see a lot of good stuff carried over and some new improvements as well. The game world looks really nice. The races are all very unique and look interesting. Unlike most other games they also play quite differently which is a nice bonus compared to most games which have rather generic races. Towns, buildings, economy and science all seem to be done pretty well. Of course there are some balancing issues which are already covered in depth on other topics so I won't go into details about them much here but I hope they will be ironed out at some later point.

However there are still some more severe issues I'd like to point out:

1. Combat system

I don't know if it's solely because of how early in development is but there currently are lots of areas to improve on. I know it is planned to make combat more controllable than it is now which is good and I'm really looking forward to it. I also hope that more details and tooltips will be added because currently the combat system is pretty vague. It's hard to understand how damage is calculated and how much terrain effects it etc. It takes a lot of time to understand how it all works for a new player. I find it extremely hard to know the outcome of the battle.

In regards of combat this game is comparable to Fallen Enchantress so I would hope it becomes at least as good. I know the battlefields aren't as big but still. Maybe in the future you could make it to expand the tiles for combat so it would still keep the importance of picking your fight but it wouldn't feel so crammed together.

2. Performance

Not everybody has a high end gaming rig so it is important that the game performs well on medium tier computers aswell. In this regard I'm going to compare it to Age of Wonders 3, because it's the most recent one that came out. It seems that Endless Legend is more resource consuming than AoW and animations are not as fluid as well. Also alt-tabbing back into the game takes almost forever. So I hope performance will be improved because I don't want to buy a new computer every time a new game comes out for it to play smoothly.

In conclusion I hope this game will be a great game which combines good empire building with good combat system.

I suffer from this as well but I feel optimization isn't on the devs minds at the moment, that will probably come when we have a more solid game.

Considering it's an alpha still and performance tweaking is one of the things listed on the to-do list I wouldn't worry too much about it being very resource demanding down the road, especially once they actually do implement manual quality adjustments and optimization but I honestly don't expect to see optimizations until we enter the beta stage. With that said I already think the game is pretty lax on system requirements, the minimum system specs are misleading as I am playing on a much older rig on beautiful without any issues.
