What speed do you play on? Are units getting outclassed too fast on higher speeds?

Hello!

I was disappointed to see that recruiting in era 3 gives me units in level 3 (or a bit lower then that actually, perhaps a bug). My old units were nothing like level 3. I want to keep using my same old brilliant army even though recruiting new units is rather cheap. I'm assuming playing on Endless speed means units are gaining EXP faster than the tech tree reaches a new level. How do you play? Do you keep selling old and recruiting new units, or are the old ones usually able to catch up?

Mayhe I misunderstand the intent of your post but why don't you just retrofit the units from an earlier era?

I'm not talking about equipment, but about unit experience. Units in later eras spawn with higher (EXP) level than my previous units had gained. Retrofit gives units items, not experience (as far as I understand)

There are some techs that give increased experience, but it only applies to units made after the tech completion. Your old troops only acquire experience from combat, I think.

I wouldn't mind seeing each new era give a lump sum of XP to existing units in order to keep them competitive, and reward keeping units alive throughout the game.

Agreed. Or remove at least some of the huge bonus given to units recruited in later eras.

What you are describing works great in a game like Civ5 but EL took a different idea. If you want to pursue your idea of super troops from era 1, try to max out the 'No Idle Hands' skill on your army hero. +3 XP per turn is way over the bonus XP from progressive eras.

The problem is that No idle hands isn't as strong as the other side. And as winter will come you need to get the top skill as far as possible. So it's a bad mood to max no idle hands.

The problem would be easily solved by reducing how many XP are needed to level up, then reduce the bonus of each level up. High level units really are power houses.

I mostly play on normal but my thoughts on idle hands are different since it can be used in towns, making it useful if you got a breath and are switching the heroes to town. If i lvl it, then as fast as i can ,with a full party, since it gives more exp this way. I think 4 units with one lvl ahead would beat 4 other units with more advanced skills on their leader. The higher skills (atleast at higher lvl ) give % bonuses and they are getting larger later. The Flat stat boosts on your unis are better at the begining (except health maybe)

Idle hands on a ww hero at your recruiting town is a beast. Especially with Vaulters. I would get it for a Drakkenhero too, to get the skillfor & bonus in your towns.

Dont know about the fast difficult, ill try it the next game.

(sorry for being a bit offtopic)

Then double the unit levels, so a level 20 unit has the same overall strength that a level 10 unit has now. That takes care of another issue, the high starting unit level for era 5 and 6.
