1) Each region only contains one Minor faction, yes?

2) The Minor faction can have more than one village, yes?

3) Roving armies from Minor factions can roam around the map outside of their own region, yes?

Here's a big question - do you have to pacify each village one at a time, or if you pacify one have you pacified this Minor faction?

Quote from the manual:

'Face the army inside the village and defeat it. The village is destroyed, which prevents it from giving your city a population bonus until it is rebuilt'.

Well... how does that 'rebuilt' thing happen? Does it just automatically rebuild itself or is there something you have to do?

Thanks for any info/comments. Trying to get a handle on this pacification/assimilation thing.

Hey,

1: Yes, BUT, another region may have that same minor faction. However, this is uncommon and in most cases these two regions with the same minor faction will be adjacent to each other.

2: Yes

3: I think so, not sure.

To pacify a village you have 3 options:

1: parley (available after you research a technology, not sure which one but it is a tier 1 technology)

Pacifies ALL villages in the region once the quest is complete. You won't need to rebuild them

2: bribe (requires the same technology as parley)

I think it only pacifies the village you bribe, and not all the villages. You won't have to rebuild the village

3: attack and destroy (then rebuild it)

You attack the village and destroy it. Then you will rebuild the village.

rebuilding a village

you build a village as you would build any other resource extractor. I.e, if the village you want to build is an "urces" village, it will appear in the list of building options available in the city. click on it, and then click on a location on the map where the destroyed urces village is.

Pacification:

means that the village in the region is 'pacified', no longer produces roaming armies and gives you +1 population to region where it belongs. Destroyed villages do not give the +1 poppulation until they are rebuilt

Assimilation

is done in the empire screen (1st icon on the top left)

To assimilate a minor faction, it needs to exist in one of your regions. Assimilating a minor faction allows you to build it's units AND gives you another unique benefit based on how many villages you have pacified (destroyed villages don't count).

Note that you can assimilate a faction even if all the villages you have of it are destroyed, though you won't get any added benefit except for that unit you get from it.

Initially you can assimilate only one minor faction, and can assimilate more after researching the relevant technologies.

I'm relatively new to all this, but been really enjoying the game. Felt I could answer your question!

1) Yes (as far as I've seen!).

2) Yes, certainly 2, I 99% sure I've seen 3 villages in some areas. Not sure what the upper limit is.

3) Unfortunately yes, as I found out at the cost of my damaged army. smiley: smile

You can attack the village and kill the army, turning it into a 'pacified ruin' which does nothing for you. To rebuild it, you must have a city in the region. You pick the village from the build queue (it will be named as per the race), then drop it onto the village in the map. It's just like building a resource extractor. You then get +1 worker from each village done this way in the city.

If you pacify the village(s) by completing their quest (option to research in the bottom of tier 1 tech, can't recall the name). Then all the villages in that region join you and you don't have to build them back up - this can be great.

There's also a bribe option, but I've not mucked about with that.

Assimilating the race can be done from the empire screen (the 1st button on the top left menu bar). This gives you access to a racial unit buildable in your cities, plus a bonus based on the total number of villages you hold.

This is for 'normal races', I understand the rules are different for the cultists (who I've not tried yet) and possibly some other factions.

Hope that helps!

Sounds like if you 'parley', get a quest and fulfill it - you get ALL the villages in the region.

But if you attack the villages you have to attack each one and then rebuild each one?

I don't usually see more than two villages in a region so I'm guessing the second option would work ok. Plus you get the combat experience for your hero/troops.

Each region has 1-3 villages in it. Not 100% sure, but it seems each starting region only has 1 village in it. If you attack a village you will pacify it but it will need to be rebuilt before you can get a worker from it. Bribing a village pacifies it without fighting or needing to rebuild but requires dust and the tech "Language Square." Parlaying, which also requires "Language Square," gives you one of several quests. Sometimes they are one step and simple, other times they have two parts and cost resources. Completing quests for a faction will pacify all villages in that region (it might even pacify all villages of that faction, but I'd have to double check that).

The Cultists have a different approach to minor factions in that they can convert villages and use them as an extension of their capital, but that's a whole 'nother story...

Both correct, yes. Remember you can also take a look at the quest, then Bribe/Attack if you don't like what you see.

@Jonnie: yeah, I also noticed that starting regions seem to always just get 1 minor village. Can't comment on pacifying a faction across regions via questing, that's not something I've noticed smiley: smile
