So I researched Mercenary Corps just to find out that Mercenary Market is empty...
I know that it have some low level units at the beginning of game and if not mistaken if other AI/Player sell unit it goes there. However they either stay low level/badly equipped and become completely useless over time or AI gets them and it becomes empty. Mercenary Market should replenish on it own with mercenaries and exclusive offer mercenaries just like with heroes.

Some form of auction should be added, so that it won't be who ever clicks faster gets hero or unit. At least for lets say some special event offers.

You could sell your own (good equiped) units and rebuy them on mercenary market, if you want to have higher quality smiley: cool

My understanding (and I could be wrong! If so, please someone correct me) is that:

1) The type of units in the Market is dependent on the number of unclaimed minor faction villages

2) In high difficulty levels, where the AI has lots of money, they seem to buy up the mercenaries.

3) Sometimes, when an AI is loosing, it will sell units for money, if it has a lot.

So, if you play high difficulty, and get markets later in the game, when there are no unclaimed villages - no mercenaries.

If you are Roving clans, and are trying to progress your story line, and get the destroy city part later in the game, when cities are well defended, and there are no mercenaries, you are stuck.

Possible solutions:

1) play islands - regions seem to be empty longer.

2) make sure there are a few Cultist players

3) somehow bankrupt a player (large army - low city number) to force them to sell units.

My guess is this is not a problem in multilplayer, since selling units is a way to make money, so the mercenary market may be stocked later in the game.

Groo -- Can you do that? sell and rebuy your own units? when I sell units, I don't recall seeing them in the market. If you could do that, as Roving clans, I would definitely do that with all new units in late game. To get the bonus to movement and HP, even if I could not longer upgrade them....

I don't think this possible since I don't see units I sold and if that was possible it would be easily abused to gain economic victory by selling, buying and selling again same units over and over again.

Read again... and it doesn't start out empty.

I know that it have some low level units at the beginning of game and if not mistaken if other AI/Player sell unit it goes there. However they either stay low level/badly equipped and become completely useless over time or AI gets them and it becomes empty.

In the end Mercenary Corps is 4th era technology.

Yeah i was thinking that this is a reason. Thing is by 4th era everything is claimed yet along that limitation doesn't make sense... they are mercenaries...

I rather seek real solution made by developers than "crutch"

Sorry for the misinformation.

As MF villages become pacified/destroyed they stop introducing units into the Marketplace. If other Empires aren't selling, it becomes empty.

There's lots of problems with the Unit Marketplace, Mercenaries and Privateers:

  • They are comparatively weak
  • They are expensive
  • Privateers won't reinforce each other
  • You can't upgrade them
  • Too small of a supply on the Marketplace

The short of it is that they aren't worth your time. Unfortunately, some of these issues are pretty hard coded in the system (I've tries to address a few with mods). These issue aren't new (see this old thread), I wouldn't expect a change anytime soon :( ...

The good news is that Heroes are very much worth your time and selling off units to the Marketplace can be very profitable, so the tech isn't a complete bust.
