Both - the city in question is producing negative dust for the Necrophage empire (improvement upkeep is higher than dust production) and this has caused them to flip their evaluation. We'll set something up to stop this from happening in future. Thanks for the report Muwatallis!

Thanks for your response Wilbefast - and for the quick diagnosis!

It's unlikely to come immediately I'm afraid: we try to batch up changes (except fixes to serious issues) so that the updates are big enough to be noticed - this is handy for a multiplayer game as it gives players something to synchronise around. What's more we've been experimenting with a bunch of things on the development branch - we think you'll like them a lot, but we're not ready to share any of that stuff... yet smiley: sweat Basically we'll need to dig the AI changes out and package them as a separate update - this will be a bit of a fiddle, so we're not going to do it until we're satisfied with the changes as a whole.

Definitely happy to hear that you're continuing to work on it, and that you feel like having some more aces up your sleeves ^^

OK I see. I'll look forward to the changes when they do come. Thanks for all the work you guys have put into the game so far. Definitely my favorite fantasy 4x at this point. :)

Agreed - thought you might be interested to know where the strange evaluation comes from though :) It should be fixed in the next update.

Yeah, just encountered this for the first time. The explanation is logical, but still somewhat broken in gameplay terms. Every city starts of negative. if you give one away, it will hurt you in the long run.

(it will hurt a lot more than just giving 5 titanium for a truce, which is an outrage to them...)

That's an interesting, albeit flawed, evaluation from the part of the AI. I wonder if using a spy to reduce the production of a city would make it be less valuable diplomatically?

Yes, from my experience it would.

Hi everyone,

I've recently started playing EL for the first time.
In this game (my first) I am at war with the Necrophages (AI) and firstly they didn't want to agree to a truce, even though their diplomatic status was "exhausted (cities taken, units killed, war fatigue)" - without me giving some hefty form of payment. This didn't make much sense as I was clearly winning, you would think they would accept a "white peace" at least.

Now after I've taken a few more cities and defeated more armies, they are willing to truce, but I also noticed something strange - demanding their only remaining non-capital city increases the deal from slightly positive for them to max positive (see screenshot below).

Is there any logical explanation for this behaviour? Or is it a bug?
Is it maybe part of the AI's cunning plan to further lower the approval rating in my already over-extended empire so as to induce a rebellion? :D

Thanks!

That's interesting. So the AI is trying to make a deal to get itself out of the red by offloading a city that is hurting it financially. It actually believes that it is getting the better deal by doing so.

Hi All,

Thanks for your responses.

Civ´s AI does that

I've never noticed that in Civ, but then again I haven't played Civ 5 that much (assuming it happens only in that iteration).

I can confirm that the smaller, darker green portion of the bar is the "truce only", and when hovering over the city it adds the larger, pale green bar (flashing green in-game). Also when selecting the city as suggested the whole bar becomes the darker green colour.

In fact it swung the deal so much to the positive side that I could also request every technology they had without the bar going down at all (the only limiting factor being the amount of influence I had available). In the end I traded for the city and also got 6 techs from them (I felt like I was exploiting the system a little, but as it's my first game I'll take all the help I can get! :p). For some reason adding resources or dust drastically reduced the "positivity" of the deal though - I was able to get 9 gold and keep the bar just in the green, but most resources brought it to full red very quickly.

I have attached the save file as suggested Broken Lords - Turn 163t.zip.

Thanks

Civ´s AI does that, it would be cool to know EL´s does too, although I have to say I´ve never seen it happen.

ps: Isn´t the bar going down when you hover the mouse over the City? Like, the full green bar is when you´re proposing only the Truce, like the picture, and if you selected the city, it would go down by that amount indicated?

ps2: the save file from the game helps wonders

that isn't the problem.

if you look at the picture it seems that the AI would be more willing the get a truce with him if he took one of their cities in the deal which doesn't really make sense.

also Muwatallis try and attach a save file that would save some time for the devs.
