Ingenious Admiral: Worth it?

So, from a quick experiment it seems that Ingenious Admiral (Morgawr racial ability that gives Transport Ships +defense, initiative, and move) ONLY works on Transport Ships. I initially thought this applied to the entire army (i.e. naval ships, too), but I wasn't being literal enough.

As such, isn't Ingenious Admiral pretty terrible? Even with the buffs, it seems like a waste--I could create an army of the cheapest, most basic land units possible and use them as transport ships, but I think I'd get more value for the same amount of industry to actually create proper sea vessels, right? Am I missing something?

The Morgawr hero can solo most naval fights, so I personally don't like having him lead naval units since they just slow him down. But if you give him land units he's not slowed down. Plus he earns more experience per turn due to having a party. Just detach him when you need to fight and reattach afterwards. It also makes him a great escort for units you need to move somewhere.

So, it sounds like you do actually use Ingenious Admiral, and just pair the Morgawr hero with some cheap land units (i.e. as transport ships) for leveling purposes. I'll give it a shot. Just seemed weird.

It's a complete waste yes. No one use embarqued units to fight on seas. You use dedicated units : naval units.

It's a bad design.

The only utility it may have, it would be if the Morgawr hero have naturally a faster reassignement speed. With this, you could put him on an embarqued army, then remove it when they have reached the point you want, to quickly put it in another army (a pure naval units army for exemple). But it's not the case.

To make this skill work it should work on naval units off course, not to boost the entire army but to give them the speed buff.

Just saw something interesting: In a post 16d ago on the devblog about Tempest, the post indicates that Ingenious Admiral should apply to all units (including embarked units). I'm wondering whether current implementation is an intentional change or a bug.

 Hero Skill - "Ancient Mariner" 1 / 2 / 3
When the hero is assigned as a General and embarked: increases the military attributes of all units (including embarked land units) in the hero’s group when it is involved in a sea battle.

I had suggested that it should apply to both naval units and transports, as I find the current itteration too limited and specialized.

I dont mind making the buffs less potent but more broadly applicable.

Agree - fighting with embarked units is case when you are cornered and can't escape. But at this point, they probably all dead... ^.^"

Kinda of a different note - I'm just checking the add on... is the Morgawr hero this strong on naval battles? O.o To fight them alone...
