To my knowledge, we don't have plans to change AI any further, especially as our AI team is now toiling away at Endless Space 2's AI.

Thanks for the patch Amplitude folks but it is going to be a little while before I can test it due to game backlogs...

So are the achievements gonne be fixed? :) I see the mention of Mare Nostrum (probably need a new save to unlock it), but I see no mention of the others (full deck, from the depths, sea monsters related achievements)

Though, about a month ago, Wilbefast posted this in regards to AI unit variety

The AI only ever uses a single type of faction specific unit in a game.

Yep - this is something we looked into during the development of Tempest, and they'll be a free update at the end of the week with a bunch of changes to the AI  If you are still running into this issue after the update then, yes, saves would be appreciated.

Are you saying now that this will not be happening?

Indeed, AI in Endless Space 2 is built using a completely different system than the one in our previous game (with the aim of being easier to tinker with). This unfortunately means that progress made on it isn't backwards-compatible.

That's sad to hear.

Isn't there any chance that you can back-port some of ES2's improvements to EL?

I do hope that they share a common code-base, at least to a certain degree?

Speaking under correction here but I think that the whole point of ES2's AI is that they didn't build it exactly like EL's. Or rather that the game and AI are being built more simultaneously for ES 2.

So it will be more like lessons learned from EL are being taken to ES2 where changes can be made more readily since it is early stages for that game.

From my observation, there are not huge AI problems but many small ones which add up. For instance:

Why don't the Roving Clans practically give away all the market techs for a pittance to each race they encounter? There is no advantage to them for other races to not have them. It's more money in their pockets at the end of the day.

Why do Broken Lords AI not exclusively switch to Dust Accessories when they become available? Their in-combat healing, plus regen, plus Dust Care OOC makes them extremely difficult to kill.

Why do the AI build Guardians only to leave them out of combat? Guardians should pretty much always be included as a force-multiplier for any combat they can reach.

Why do the AI choose such odd places to build their cities in a region, often restricting themselves to a corner where district expansion is made difficult?

For my part, I'm rather sad to hear it, although we should have expected it considering how long the game has been around. I'm also sad because I currently don't have much interest in ES 2 with its extremely hands-off approach to combat and the next EL game is likely very far away.

@ frogsquadron For the longest time, the biggest issue with EL has been it's AI and the amount of struggle it puts up to being conquered. Once this is solved, I would consider this game to be one of the best on the market. IMHO, you all are REALLY close to that coming to fruition.

I'm going to have to agree with Slashman. Be thorough, and take your rightful place as game developer legends.

As mentioned somewhere else, this might take anywhere from a week to three, depending on whether our fixes for resource distribution work, or require worldgen work from Jean-Luc.

I'm sure they will start adressing the issues with Tempest before long.

I think they've been on these bugs already for some time, and they want to release a patch containing more fixes, rather than several small patches with a few fixes each.

Additionally, I also believe that they're allocating more time and resources for testing the patch, since Tempest introduced quite a few regressions, unfortunately - so they don't want this to happen again.

Either way, I'm very confident that we'll see a nice patch not before too long ^^

Up.

More than two weeks and still no update. It's a failure gentlemen.

Games are broken due to this big problem, but there is still no support.

Would like a minipatch as well. Tempest is fun, but it misses polish, and the error the sea monster gives, is quite annoying as it often interrupts MP

I think OP was just asking because, in another thread, we had assurances that we'd see a free update by the end of the week, and that was 16 days ago. I'm not complaining, but I'm just a bit curious about what the ETA is as well.

Amplitude? Everything okay over there?

Well, generally speaking ... IRWIR (It's Ready When It's Ready) ^^

I think the devs at Amplitude are really under heavy pressure, fixing bugs in EL, fixing bugs in ES2 and adding content and features, and maaaybe ... but just maybe ... working on something yet again completely new, ready to amaze us ^^

Let's give them some time. I personally think that it'll be worth the wait.
