Hi folks

Got Endless Space few days ago and now want to check this title as well. Just wonder which add-ons really improve gameplay and which are simply cosmetics?

Help is really appreciated!

Each paid DLC enhance gameplay in one way or another: new unique factions and mechanics, colossal units, new resources, naval enhancements, espionage, quests etc.

Only Echoes of Auriga adds 7 new music tracks and re-skins few items for few bucks. That is, if you think ingenious music of FlyByNo automatically making you play x4-times better as not a gameplay improvement :)

Base game is feature reach on its own, but if you are interested in DLCs, I'd suggest you to pick one that interest you most by its description, or grab them all. You can then play by activating them one by one each game, thus steadily learning new mechanics, or activate all at once and feel free to explore.

Sure, DLCs, unless purely cosmetic, add to gameplay. Just paying 40 euro for whole bunch, while original game is 30, is bit questionable. I don't mind having fewer factions at all. It's more of a question if some expansions change basic gameplay significantly or got nice QoL improvements?

Wait for the next big sale. Complete pack with everything inside for $20 or was it even $10. It will either happen on 19 May 2017, when Endless  Space 2 is released, or sometime in summer alongside the Steam sale.

I wouldn't play the base game without all expansions, they really add to the fun.

All of them. Each brings something new/fresh to the game. Steam Summer sale is coming soon.

I find the Gaurdians expansion to be pretty overwhelming. But it's still good. And I got so that when I'm ready I can add it in. But currently I play with all of the expansions and can't imagine not doing so.

The only one I am hesitant to reccomend is Tempest, because it does bad things ot the AI (building boats on lakes, etc.).

Do you have a save where the AI has managed to build a boat on a lake Dragar? Intelligence aside this should not be possible in theory...

It's entirely possible and was mentioned multiple times, by myself included. I manage to produce it by choosing chaotic continent types. That map setting generally makes small land-locked pockets of water which the AI will happily build ships in even if you turn lakes off in the map settings. The AI will see it all as ocean I guess.

Sure! I've seen it myself, but there's even a bug report on this forum.

I only had base game but this sale I picked up Temptest and Guardians and am quite pleased! Temptest adds... well water reworks, naval combat, new weather (like frozen lakes to walk on) and much more. And Guardians adds legendary builds to build (like wonders in Civ) as well new quests and a bunch of other stuff.

But as others have said, which ever interests you the most is the ones you should pick up!
