What are these VERY powerful roaming armies with the yellow icons?

So I am nearing the end of my 1st full game. What I am seeing are roaming armies of varying minor factions showing up, not sure from where. And these guys have different icons above their head, its yellow with what looks like a chalice or cup of some kind. And they are stronger than others. Where are these dudes coming from??

Maybe this is related. One of the ruins in an unclaimed region has this orange pillar of light shooting from it. A group of 5 units is near it from a faction that is nowhere near that region.

This game seems pretty cool but so much is not explained.....

These neutral armies with a yellow icon are quest armies. They appear if a player (or AI) unlocks certain quests like destroying roaming armies, defeating avenging armies, and the like. They are not more powerful than the norm.

Once a player finishes their faction quest, a new quest is unlocked where some ruins have a light shooting from it. If any player advances through that new quest, armies of powerful golem like creatures spawn in these specific ruins.

Ok. So these lit ruins and quest armies, I can search the ruins and attack the armies even they are for other faction's quests? Must be true since I don't think any of my active quests have them. These guys pillage and siege my cities too.

Yes you can, but I don't think you get the quest rewards for killing them (but you deprive the AI from doing it).

He´s talking about the units from the Quest Victory.

After you search some of those pillars with a ray of light with a hero lvl 9 (there might be some other condition), you start fighting these armies, which are really strong. You have to kill them all I suppose. I´m not sure I ever got Quest Victory.

btw, the pillars of light appear after someone finish their Faction Questline.

edit: these minions will look like red silics. If they are any other minion, they´re from regular ruin quest, or from some faction´s quest, etc..

lastly, everytime you need help, a screenshot/save takes you half the way.

I had a big surprise the first time I saw those golens. I was dominating the AIs (low dif lvl, I was still learning by that time) and destroying everything in my path, got a message that one of my cities were under siege, checked too fast and only saw an army of Silics, didn't notice the color, wasn't paying attention, sent a single army of 8 drones to get there fast and just clear that out, they had high tier equipment so I didn't even bother with manual combat, should've been a massacre.

Well... it was a massacre... lost all my drones and didn't kill a single damm golem.

The rage...
