I know a lot of people have been having issues with loading saves in multiplayer, so I'll quickly post this here for all to see. Have someone load up the game alone, then join though Steam if invite only. You'll miss a turn, but you should load in fine without issues.

I will vouch that this tends to be the best thing to try
