As a new player that hasn't played much 4x games would it be best to learn with the base game or should I go all out with one or both expansions? Thanks.

Honestly best to start out with the base game, get yourself some experience with it, after that for a little bit, crack on and get them both!

At least playing the base game will give you some insight to the general game play and so on.

I second that advice: the expansions add several gameplay mechanics that might confuse you at the start, so I'd suggest sticking to the vanilla game until you feel confident enough to delve deeper into the new systems and factions offered by the Guardians and Shadows expansions. Easy does it! smiley: smile

Thanks for the advice Qohorik and Frogsquadron, I'll stick with the base game for now.

Odd, after having played just about 400 turns on easy, I would say that those expansion added nothing to complicated. But maybe I missed something, the espionage seems to be rather straightforward. Legendary deeds and one legendary building are very straight forward too.

Can´t say I would like to play without those DLCs even after just one full-game with them. They really spice up the game.

I'm merely suggesting playing without because Nomad58 mentioned he is not a 4x veteran. Not knowing the level of his experience, I'm suggesting starting simple, just so as to make sure he doesn't mistakenly takes up the Forgotten, for instance, and gets his ass handed to him by the AI. smiley: biggrin
