Yes, I know that the lore in EL is amazing and immersive. But what I'd love to see (perhaps in a future DLC) is something like a campaign. Meaning a series of matches, pre-configured by the devs, in an ascending order of difficulty, and interconnected with each other. It would also mean that you have to pursue a certain type of victory, in a certain amount of time, e.g. avoiding losing a specific city or hero etc.

Sorry if it was already discussed ...

What do you guys think ?

I doubt that will happen and I think there are more pressing needs for the game. In my view, faction quests are a substitute for campaigns, at least as far as story is concerned, and that is enough for me personally.

I found myself ignoring the campaigns in other 4x games to be honest.

The main faction quest IS the campaign for each faction. No two are alike.

Yes, I know that, and this makes EL quite brilliant compared to other 4x games.

What I'm suggesting though is a story stretched over more games (matches). Perhaps with the faction quest story-line overwritten by the "campaign" one. I don't think that would be too difficult, and I would personally enjoy it a lot.

That's interesting, but I doubt they would do something like this for EL. It would need to be in EL2 I think.

I had really hoped that Endless Legend would come with a scenario editor. If we'd had that, we'd probably already sit on some fan-made campaigns.

I think it would be awesome to see expanded versions of the faction quests made into campaigns, with a canon world map.

I would love to see a 4X game adopt a canon map and campaign style similar to the old Dune 2 map and Warhammer: Dark Crusade. You choose which "region" of the map you want to attempt to conquer next and then you play your next game as normal, but your opponents are determined by what factions happen to be bordering that "tile" - eg Dune 2 & Dark Crusade

It would be a series of smaller skirmish size maps, with 1-3ish opponents depending on region borders. Could even have each region give particular bonuses (like the Dark Crusade ones do) - along the lines of starting the next map with extra Titanium/Glassteel, or starting with a 2nd hero - that kind of thing. You can also make it so that when assaulting an already owned region, the defender begins with 2 or 3 cities and some already built improvements etc to make it a challenge.

The examples (Dune 2 and Dark Crusade) are obviously RTS base builders, so you choose your region and then start a RTS skirmish but I don't see why a 4X couldn't work in exactly the same way. You could even get really creative and have seasons working on the "global" map, ie half to a 3rd of the map is currently snow free while the rest is experiencing winter. You can then choose to start your invasion in either summer or winter (it won't affect the length of the seasons in the actual skirmish map, just which season it is when you start it.) This gives you the option to strategically attack into someones occupied territory in winter, which gives you more time to build up before they can get their armies to you because of the reduced movement.

Thinking about this, I am wondering if this kind of campaign could be used for an interesting multiplayer community event, using a fixed "province" map to determine which factions play against who, with players signing up for specific factions and volunteering for specific skirmishes.

Great idea !

My point was that I.d like to see some continuity between matches, but I guess that once the mechanics to support this are in place, it.ll open up many new possibilities ...
