Any serious game-breaking bugs or design problems in Endless Legend?

I just found out, after enjoying Endless Space somewhat, that it turns out the consensus is there's a game-breaking problem with the weapon system in that game--all subtlety in it is trumped by the apparent fact that, in the end, whoever has the most long-range kinetic weapons wins.

Before I get into EL, I should find out--are there any such surprises in store for me here?

I currently just have vanilla, have not yet purchased Guardians or Shadows.

Not really, there ARE a couple of balance issues at the moment, but an update is being released tomorrow that should fixt the majority of that.

There´s a section about Balance up there, inside the Games2Gether subforum. You can inform yourself there. I think the game is pretty balanced in general with the expansions. In single player you can beat the hardest with any faction; in mp some factions are naturally better, but if you´re not the type that needs to win every match you play, they are all tons of different fun.

You could check out a guide I made listing some things of questionable status here. It could probably stand to be updated, but if you were involved with a group of friends, you could look over that list of "tricks" and see which of them you considered okay, and which you considered exploitative. In my opinion, none of the exploits are game-breaking.

There are improvements and units that any player would be mistaken in ignoring, but they're available to all players, so again, not really game-breaking.

Factions aren't perfectly balanced, but they're not so imbalanced that two players using the weakest factions couldn't destroy a single player using the strongest factions, so not game-breaking as long as you're willing to play politically (which you should be).

Folks, how about now as the patch should be out/is out by the time you read this...

How are the "balance issues" and AI intelligence levels now?

The A.I intelligence I cannot answer you because I have not played a single solo game.

But the Balance issues are still a big problem. When I say Balance, I mean in multiplayer. In solo, there is not important balance problem.

Some problems have been reduced about balance, but the changes were timids. The Forgottens are steal total crap in competitive MP, the Roving Clans have still a weak eco, and very few good civ features.

If you play with smart players it can be "solved" : for exemple you can play with custom factions on but autorised only for the forgottens and the roving clans. But you need to find players in MP which are ok with your rules.

Is there a way to play multiplayer in a way that doesn't require everyone to have time to sit at their computers for a few hours all at the same time?

Well, you could play shorter sessions, which it is possible to enforce through game options (turn timer et al), but then it could be difficult to ensure your friends are all available every time you wish to carry on.

This would be the case with a lot of activities, though, but turn-based strategy games tend to suffer from this drawback indeed! smiley: smile

To clarify what Frogsquadron is saying (I think), you can save MP games and come back to them later. It's hard to get a bunch of people on the same schedule, but if you have a close-knit group you're playing with, it should be possible to play a game over multiple sessions.

Your better off playing MP via a "close-knit" group of friends and/or family...

That's what my sister, bro-in-law, and friend do...we just play every Saturday for 2-4 hours...and each game takes us ~4-5 sessions. And, yes, we play on Quick and Pangaea, or Pangaea +.

There are some persistent UI problems. Like when using luxury resources and especially applying stockpiles. You can't play without using luxuries so I still use them but horribleness of stockpiles is such that I don't use them at all and turn of a whole strategic layer.

There are also late-game issues when you use large-scale UI. Popups don't have scrollbars so later unit statistics overflow out of the screen.
