How can you mouse over powers of a unit?

Is there a way to lock the units statistics so you can actually mouse over them and see what its powers do?

Right now if you mouse over a unit in an army you can see the powers it has but if you try to mouse over the powers to see what they do the box promptly disappears.

I hope there is a key to press that makes the stat box stay open while you mouse over its abilities...?

It depends on where in the game's interface you are.

If you're in a battle, try selecting a unit during the orders or deployment phase by left clicking on it. It should bring up a unit card on one side of the screen which you can mouse-over.

Another useful place to do this is in the retrofit screen. Hit F6, select and edit a unit. Now you can easily mouse-over various capacities.

Going into the unit design screen works perfectly fine for one's own units, but for mercenaries or other factions you have to wait until you're in combat to get the details.

This is my only gripe with an otherwise stellar user interface!

I sometimes wish that the skills icons had the text under them. This would result it quite a large tool tip but It would be worth it for the usability. I haven't player long enough to know all the skills off by heart.

Yes, this is a problem. I find it particularly frustrating on the research screen, where I can see the stats of a new unit model that I can choose to research, but I can't tell what its capacities do.

For example, this made me reluctant to unlock the Ardent Mages ranged unit when I first played them, because I didn't realize they had an area attack.
