During combat, why can't one unit swap place with an adjacent unit? I love the game btw, but how to do you bring in reinforcements?

If you hold the ALT key you can order a unit to move to another unit's position, though as each unit's turn is resolved one by one you can't swap two units' positions in one phase, unlike during deployment.
