Strategic movement animation crawl

I've never seen a 4x or TBS game with this kind of - and unadjustable - default movement animation speed. Turtle-pace is being kind. What is more surprising is that nothing has been done about it, given 1) it is so obvious (the Steam forum is inundated with complaints about this problem); 2) game-altering - if not game-breaking; and 3) and seemingly easy to fix (I say easy to fix, because no other 4x or TBS game I know has this kind of problem).

Seriously, how hard is it to introduce faster strategic movement animation speeds as you did with tactical combat? It's just mind-boggling.

Turns are simultaneous, people need to see the movement happen. It´s already bad enough with lag the way it is.

Huh? Other simultaneous turn games do not have this kind of animation crawl. For instance, movement animation is much faster in AoW 3 - a game that EL is often compared to for quality and mechanic.

I don´t see it working much faster than the double-click speed, it´s already almost instant. I never played much aow 3, never on mp, so have no idea how that works.

What's double click speed? Wait, there is a way to speed it up? Prithee, tell me! smiley: wink

There are setting for the movement speeds before you start the game. Once you start the game I haven't seen any way to speed up movement.

Once again, I am talking about strategic map movement, not tactical map movement. The start-up setting only affects tactical map movement, as far as I know.

Like BPrado wrote, you can doubleclick right mouse button to aim location to speed up army movement on strategic map.

Just tried it. It very slightly increases movement, but the overall speed is still really not satisfactory...

Normally it's close to "beam" an army, if you doubleclick.

Perhaps it was fixed by the devs... because in synchronized gameplay it happens often that at start of next turn one (human) player tries to attack as fast as possible an other players army. while the other player tries to flee as fast as possible to avoid attack. Result is both players doubleclick like crazy, for to be 1st sending command. lol

In my experience the one with the better connection/hardware wins^^

That leads me to the conclusion, that your hardware suffers too (options?)much, so that your duobleclicking is not as succesful, as it could be.

If double click was any faster, it would be instant. Now imagine flying units moving 12 tiles instantly with 0 ms of ping. Even if they don´t want to Action Point-lock you, they can Zone of Control-lock you by simply flying around you. They can snipe cities from outside your View range before you even have time to send an army within reinforcement range. You could not send an army into position if it depends on a second reinforcement to survive, because the moment you teleport there and go click on the other unit, the enemy could teleport-attack your first army.

I´m sure there other scenarios that make instant moving not feasible.

If speeding up movement were an issue in MP (or in SP), you could do one of the two things. First, you could simply enable people to have instant movement in SP only. And if some people don't like it because AIs will always move faster, Amplitude can do what AoW 3 did: Give the AI a 5-second wait before it moves any units, so players can either escape or hit escaping AI.
