Amplitude, could you please do another pass at weeding out MP desyncs?

I can understand that it was much worse in the past, so your effort in this is much appreciated.

However my friend and I fairly often desync (lategame (100+ turns) it happens every 15-20 turns). We can obviously fix it by reloading, but it still breaks the flow a bit.

Thanks.

It is much, much worse for us now. We never had desync issues in the past, and I would often say "see, remember how Civ V used to desync on us all the time?" Now, it is even worse then Civ V. The last patch definitely caused this issue, as we never had this issue in the past.

Does this happen with the same frequency if you swap hosts? Usually one of the players is much more likely to be causing the sync issues than the others (connection stability issue).

I can second that there are still desync happening. Mostly i am hosting since i have a very reliable 200mbit connection, i would rule connection issues out. It seems (its a guess based on some games of experience) to have to do with wars, cities swapping owners and such and also the amount of players seems to be of impact. Usually no descync or only very few with 2 players. A few more with more players though.

We tried that, and the desyncs are terrible now. Something in the latest patch caused this. The desyncing is the main reason why we left Civ V...I guess if this doesn't get fixed we'll need to try another game. Does Age of Wonders III have this issue?

Johnyoga : can I ask you to keep on attaching save files to your reports, for all players involved in the game? This is the only way we can look into said desyncs and address the issue.

Gentlemen. I had a terrible round of desyncs lately. It happened out of the "blue". I hosted all previous MP games in our group of 4-6 people with a single desync in the 5-6 games we played. I was astounded and much happier than with Civ. Then the last game we played 4 players...we desynced a TON.

The only thing that drastically changed was: I installed deskscapes and fences. I notice deskscapes seems to be very clunkily coded or the system it relies on is clunky to begin with (either way...I love the funcitonality of deskscapes but the looping in the animations for the "dreams" seems to be clunky and it certainly causes issues in youtube videos that are playing on a monitor with an animated desktop).

I think the problem may very well be other software running on the system.

One thing I would GREATLY appreciate from devs/Amplitude, is if they would tell us the nature of the previous desyncs such that we might be able to narrow down the root cause a little on our own and mitigate from our side. What was the nature of the fixes previously applied? I haven't written a game simulator like EL or CIV but it seems wierd that you can have such desyncs...unless the gaps allowing desyncs were for speed/efficiency.

I don't know why DeskScapes and it's video system would cause undo hitching or workload that would trigger EL...but anecdotally, it seems to.

Please amplitude, can you tell us a little about the nature of why previously fixed desync problems happened and how they were fixed?

I created my account explicitly to post about (I think) deskscapes/fences causing the issue to see if other people having tremendous problems are using the same software.

I had a chat with Lt Miles, and he confirmed the desyncs we have are due to ingame stuff. Maybe Fences/Deskscapes are messing with Steam, but they're unlikely to affect anything happening ingame.

It's worth a shot uninstalling both Fences and desckscapes. I had Fences installed back in the day but that was potentially even before Endless Space came out, so my experience with it is limited.

We can look at your dump files and compare them to see what the issue is, but we'll need you to join them. To do so, activate Text dump files (advanced parameters in the map creation screen, then Misc. It's a choice between binary and text, select text) when you start a game.

Then please zip your Dump files located in this folder: My Documents/Endless Legend/Dump Files/DesyncReport.xxx.aaaaaaaa-bbbb-cccc-dddd-eeeeeeeeeeee and attach them to your report. Reports would ideally be needed for everyone involved in the game (as we compare them against one another to see what ability failed to trigger, what building wasn't taken into account, etc. to find the cause of the exception).

Thankyou very much. Will do. I'll try to get everyone in my group to do so for our next Thursday night brawlsmiley: smile.
