Hello, first time on the forums here! Nice to meet you all.

As a first-time player, I'm curious to know if it's possible to buy cities through the diplomacy screen, as one of my quests advised me as one of the possibilities to acquire a city. Mousing over my rival's cities button displays a very bare tool-tip stating it's only possible to do so as part of a truce, logically when already in a war. However I'm at peace with them and wishing to stay at peace, and I'm wondering if I'm missing something else, like a research unlock or alliance status.

I remember seeing another post about this problem, but I forgot what it's called and what the answer was. Any help would be great!

Hello and welcome!

As far as I am aware, you'll have to be at war to complete the Drakken quest. Unless you are doing the Forgotten's quest? smiley: smile

Thanks Frogsquadron! I guess I should have clarified my problem, no worries.

I'm playing as the Roving Clans where I have to "acquire" a region in order to examine a ruin with high concentrations of dust. This region is owned by the Drakken in my game, playing in newbie difficulty to learn how the game works. Granted I could easily declare war, or even better send out a privateer group to shove off those pesky dragons. But I'd like to role-play in this match, heck even trading one of my cities for their region would be okay too.

Any thoughts?

Well...actually...you can't declare war as the Roving Clans. Which means you'll need to use the Privateers.

And unfortunately there is no peaceful solution to that quest or several other faction quests (like the Vaulter one where you just want to look at some ruins -- if you're in an Alliance with the faction who controls that region you'd figure they'll let you look...). It is quite frustrating.

Ah really? That's a shame. I was worried the quest tip had any real sustenance, as it's described here: "There are many ways to separate a region from its current owner - war, diplomacy, or even outright purchase." Hmmm, is it possible to move and settle my Setseke onto a region already controlled by the Draken? Now there's an idea, a visiting city! smiley: biggrin

As far as I know - no. If region is controled you can't force your way other that conquer the city build there, and then raze it (because you have your own city that you actually can move!).

There is a mod on steam that makes trading cities easier, but I have yet to try it out.

Another possible option is to bother the Drakken enough that they declare war on YOU, then immediately offer a truce involving them giving you that region. Ways to irritate them could be rampant pillaging of their buildings, sending spies, attacking their units outside of their territory, etc. You'll likely have to offer up a substantial amount of Dust, resources, or tech for a city, unless you are currently winning the war.

Funnily enough, I've been in situations where a vastly more powerful empire declared war on me, but I was able to offer a truce AND get some of their cities due to how many resources I had for trading :P
